I wonder if Paolo Longo Borghini is related to Elisa Longo Borghini?

Yeah he is her brother and went on to ride for Liquigas and Cannondale afterwards

Interesting. Must be a dynasty. Always in the shade of his super sister!

Don't forget about their half-brother, Paulo Tiralongo!

Actually i remember from that Barloworld squad Jean Lee Augustyn was a very promising rider who had a spectacular crash in the Tour de France where he crashed out of the breakaway on a steep descent and was seen scrambling up the scree to rejoin the race but his bike kept on sliding down the hillside so he had to wait at the side of the road for a spare bike

If Thomas wins it will mean Sky have two different GT winners in same season ... I wonder when that last happened.

    Discovery (Giro and Tour) 2005?

I only remember that because Eurosport managed to get a live, on-air interview with Armstrong during a Giro stage when Paolo Salvodelli was in the pink jersey.

You know I'd nearly cheer him on in spite of the sky jersey

Surely Bernal will be confined to domestique duties for Tao Geoghegan Hart, Jon Dibben, Chris Lawless or Owain Doull:rolleyes:

I hate it when 'G' and co refer to Chris Froome as 'Froomy'.

    So cringeworthy.

You don't use nicknames for any of your mates?

Who would have known back in 2009 that the Barloworld Bianchi Procontinental squad would go on to dominate professional cycling 9 years later. Talk about a team of late developers
In fairness, Thomas was very young that tour. And can't be argued that he didn't have potential.

I do. But they're a little more inventive. If I was mates with Froome I'd probably call him Skeletor, Mantis boy or Sally.

Nick names should be affectionate, not offensive.
Otherwise they can be a form of bullying.

It's a pity the Tour and the other GTs get distilled down to how believable or not the winner is. In the present we'll never really know for sure; to me its a waste of energy to even bother.

What we do know is Lawson Craddock has ridden almost the entire race with a broken scapula while raising $100,000 plus for his home track. Not every Texan on a bike is a cnut. Sam Bennet did similar in 16 with broken fingers.

The man with more stage wins in the Tour than anyone else, was disqualified in the Alps for being outside the cut off.

176 riders took to start line, sometimes the more interesting stories are buried in the pack. I remember talking to Damien Peacock(he has been videoing UK audax events & PBP etc for years) in 2014; his take was the better stories were always at the back of the field. The rider recovering from cancer, the rider back doing PBP after a 25 year gap etc etc.

In private sure, but when addressing them in public I think you should speak their full name.

Have a read of Lanern Rouge if you get a chance - lots of great stories of the guys at the back of the pack

Dan Martin gets the Super Combativity Award from TDF judges. So he will be on the podium tomorrow. We'll deserved and well done Dan

Of course, a British winner. Not Welsh mind, but firstly British.

So on the podium tomorrow in Paris will be the tours most combative rider.
Please step forward Daniel Martin (from Birmingham)

Nothing petty about the previous post - just someone stating a fact.
