It's a pity that a car and say Lance Strolls car if it is not damaged can not be brought back to the pits and if the team say it's ok in time can go back out and at least set a time.

    Peace and long life.

LeClerc did well with that lap time.

Sirotkin is now under investigation from the FIA for his mistake going into the gravel & crossing over into the pit lane. Not a good time for Williams.

Just when you thought things couldn't get worse for Williams...

Charlie boy showing his quality yet again. 4 tenths up vs his teammate

LeClerc is better this time with P6. That is position is really excellent for him for Q2.

Carlos Sainz is eliminated from Q1 for the 1st time.

Vandoorne 9 tenths slower than Alonso and out. Another one that needs to pull his socks up or be looking for a seat next year

Hamilton is just marginally ahead of Vettel for now with 1:26.256 at the moment in Q2.

Yes Stoffel, the other car does have some pace, maybe because there's a good driver in it? :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,904 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Happy to at least get 1 car in Q3 with Ocon, Perez can maybe do something with free tyre choice for the race and hopefully get in the mix for a point.

And what about Leclerc P9, his teammate P15

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,677 ✭✭✭Mike Litoris

    McLaren *shakes head*

Leclerc's performances this year is reminiscent of Alonso in 01. Great prospect. Saubers improvement this year is also impressive.

It never ceases to amaze how close 2 different teams and drivers can get over a 3 mile lap.

It's great to see. That's what we want. Would be great to have Red Bull, Renault and Mclaren up there as well too do. Not going to happen this year do but maybe some of them will be there next year.

Hamilton has pole for Silverstone by the very skin of his teeth. Incredible stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,904 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

That was great! Top 3 separated by less than a tenth, some lap from Hamilton. Vettel didn't nail his final run, could have gone either way.

So Lewis got pole by 44 thousandths of a second. The same number of his car well without all the 0s in front of it obviously.

When the car went to the pit and came back out the DRS closed slightly earlier on the same bend.

That and Vettel are the last 2 drivers I can think of seeming to properly outperform a car.

Eddie Jordan did say in his piece that he believes the aerodynamics of the Williams encourage it to spin.

In other news, I decided to look at the highlights package on F1s youtube. It starts with David Croft announcing "We're coming home"

    Oh for the love of.....

    This too shall pass.

Could be a good race, if the Ferrari's manage to stay within 2-4 seconds.

We've had a good run of interesting races with France and Austria, and I'm looking forward to how Ferrari maximise the strength of their cars. I'm expecting a split on strategy for each car from each team, and Vettel winning from Hamilton, then Kimi and Bottas. RB rounding out the top six.

Can see them getting ahead quite early. The Merc does seem pretty vulnerable for the first lap or so.

Possible but after the start with all the turbulence I can't see overtakes here. And a one stop is expected. Interesting to see if ferrari sacrifice Kimi with a two stop

Stroll and Sirotkin to start from the pitlane as the rear wings are changed on their cars.

Best hope of a safety car then if they have rear wings that cause them to repeat yesterdays minor offs. Or else Grosjean of about 5 years ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,904 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

The support races were able to follow reasonably well in the cooler temperatures, but with the downforce levels of F1and when the track temp is higher in the afternoon it might make the tyre degradation a little bit uncertain. If all goes according to plan for the teams it will be a boring 1 stop race flag to flag.

Oh and for the GP3 race this morning it was kind of surreal to watch a race in 2018 with a front row of Piquet and Alesi :D

But they can't change there rear wings not quickly anyway. Formula 1 should follow Formula e and have rear wings on the cars that can be changed quickly.

The opening segment on C4 was awesome, from the back to the future references to Murray Walker, memories of old racers and the music choices. That was bloody fantastic!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,716 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

Wasn't a good opening, bit cringe worthy but got into it as it went on. Maybe it was the special effects!!

I have to say, the last few races Mark Webber is really showing his sexist side. Don't quite like the guy's attitude.
