Will people still be able to use the free travel pass?

See, this is what happens when the people opposing everything about BusConnects get their way, confusion about everything. With the NBRU talking rubbish about privatisation and that there's a reduction in service, these are the type of fears that are engendered in people.

Free Travel Pass will certainly still be used, and most people will benefit from the ability to switch mode, from bus onto luas or dart without having to pay anything extra, this is getting lost in the hysteria.

I cant believe they are changing the number of the 46a route, thought they could have at least left that the same, I think its one of the oldest routes in Ireland.

It is going to be changing to E2 or something.

Nearly all routes are changing numbers. It basically means all E buses are going to Stillorgan and the E1 goes to Bray like the 145 and the E2 goes to DL like the 46a. Sentimentality shouldn't get in the way of progress.

I dont feel like wading through all this, sorry.
Im only interested in Blackrock village to the city and back again. At the moment we have the 4 and 7 buses stopping at Frascari SC and they are frequent. The only problem is there is no stop from Pearse Street to OConnell street. (Gresham End)
What is replacing this service and will it be frequent.

Its been the 46a all of our lives, why should it be changed now.

It would hurt no one just to leave it as the 46a.

Changing it helps people see it as part of a network

We could see that by the color of the bus and writing at the sides.

Because it doesn’t fit in with the new system

And it would be daft to keep it when changing all the others.

I honestly think you are taking the pi55

What are your views on the DART, should they not bring in the ten minute service and keep it the way it is.

Air bags in cars ? Should they have been left the way they were ?

Eh, the bus can still be updated without changing the number, it will still be part of the same network with the same colors as the rest just kept as 46a

The E2 is different to the 46a it runs from DL to Finglas via the city centre. It would be daft keeping the 46a number at the end of the day it's just and a letter and a number and people will get used fairly quickly like people using the 10 got used to getting either the 39a or the 46a.

It’s not about updating the bus it’s updating the network. Making it more user friendly, easy to understand and more frequently

Easy to understand? You have to get like 3 buses just to get to where you wanna go now.

Depends where you want to go.
Have a look at the site and the changes.

Theres no bus even going from Dun Laoghaire to city center anymore, you have to go to cornelscrout to go into city center.

There’s a big green electric train that goes every ten minutes.

Perhaps it can provide an alternate method of getting into the city centre from Dun Laoghaire?
Maybe the bus lovers can take it?

It’s a fair point. And you’re absolutely entitled to that view.

It doesn’t mean that public services will be arranged around your preferences.

So there is no bus whatsoever going from Dun Laoghaire to city centre, so if someone is stuck on oconnell and cant get to a dart station there is no bus going to dun laoghaire area.

They could get a luas to Connolly and a dart home, what an age to be alive with so much choice. I’m actually jealous of Dun Laoighre folk.

The 7 is staying and the E2 will go from DL to Ballymun via the city centre

    Oh thanks,
Does anyone know if this has got the all clear or is it still only a suggestion.

I think that there’s some residents campaigning aganiest it as they don’t like double decker busses. Abd will I maybe allow it if they use their preferred bendy busses

Yes that's the proposal but bus connects as a whole may not happen and the network will remain the same if that happens.

For some of you who are confused about what bus routes are going where under the BusConnects proposals; I would give a little summary about what is happening between Dun Laoghaire & the City Centre. There will be 3 bus routes going from Dun Laoghaire DART Station to Charlestown in Finglas. Those 3 new routes under BusConnects are known as the 7a and 7b (part of the merged no.7 spine) via Blackrock and Ballsbridge & the E2 via Stillorgan and Donnybrook.

Here is a key part of the merged 7 spine regarding the frequency that people sometimes miss when they don't read the plans properly.

The 7a frequency is every 20 minutes all day on it's own. The 7b frequency is also every 20 minutes day on it's own.

When those two routes are combined on the new 7 spine between Ballygall Road & Dun Laoghaire; it's frequency is halved to 10 minutes all day.

When going between Dun Laoghaire & Ballygall Road; the 7a and 7b split up on their own separate routes from Ballygall Road to Charlestown.

If someone was going from Dun Laoghaire to get off at the Gresham Hotel in the City Centre. People could get the 7a & 7b to Merrion Square & get a B route to get off at The Gresham or walk for the rest of the journey through Westland Row. The B spine goes between UCD & Blanchardstown/Ongar.

The E2 will still go through O'Connell Street although the 7a and 7b will go through the outer areas of the City Centre.

What is replacing this service and will it be frequent.

The 4, 7 and 7a which currently serve Blackrock will be replaced by the new 7a and 7b. There are currently 135 combined services per day between Blackrock and the City Centre on this corridor, it will decrease to 115 per day under BusConnects.

The city centre routing of the new 7a and 7b will change, it will follow the current route as far as Merrion Square, then turn left towards Stephen’s Green, Cuffe Street, George’s Street, Christchurch, Church Street and continue towards Broadstone. If you want to go to O’Connell Street swap to the A spine on George’s Street.
