    Hi all,

As the title says I'm looking to get back into keeping Tropical fish. Have my own house now so looking to get an aquarium up and running.

Just looking to see if people can point me in the right direction of where to get a decent tank in the Dublin area at a fair price.

Ideally looking for something from an 80ltr to 180ltr range

Any suggestions would be great :)

As above. As regards shops sea horse aquarium in bsllymount would be the best specialist fish shop as oppose to the generic pet shops in retail parks

    Cheers guys

I was out in Kinsealy Petstore on Saturday and I think im going to go with a 180 litre tank

Had some nice tanks out there and they will order in Juwel tanks if you want, and he gave me a rough price of tank and cabinet.

I checked online and I can sea seahorse aquarium have the same unit im looking for and it is a lot cheaper so might ring them today to order it. Difference is so much that there is no point ringing Kinsealy to see if they could match it

Interesting. I wouldn't have thought there would be a significant difference. I suppose seahorse probably move a lot more stock. I got my 180l for €40 on adverts. Twas a bargain. There's a guy on adverts that does made to order aquariums for decent prices. If I get the money together I'd go for that. Always find the tank framing takes up too much space on some of the Jewel aquariums, although the white ones are gorgeous.

Are you sure you're looking at prices including the cabinet? I don't know about tank prices but the tall lad in Kinsealy is excellent for advice. Particularly with plants.

Juwel are alright but don't replace the filter sponges at their recommended rate. I'm a bit out of the game these days but a tank with an external filter is a better bet. I would buy a newish tank second hand and upgrade the filtration system.

    Yes price was including cabinet

Picked it up last week from Seahorse aquariums, had great fun building the cabinet, I thought my Ikea building days were over :D

Looks well and I'm glad I bought it, lads out in Seahorse are really great and give you a lot of advice, spent a fortune but I'm delighted they have that loyalty card system :D

That tall lad out in Kinsealy is also good, was very helpful last time I was out there.

There's a tank in my parent's house. It's not huge but I plan to acquire it. The wife is saying no, but I think I'll just go against that :-)

Would be my first time keeping fish. So I'm bookmarking this thread.

Any good website to read up on suggested fish for a first timer and accessories etc.?

Last fish we had was goldfish when I was a kid. I presume with the bigger tank you don't need to completely empty it every so often for cleaning?

You never completely empty it - that would destroy the bacterial cycle.

You do partial water changes each week and vacuum the gravel with a siphon pump. Every now and again you rinse the filter media in old tank water.
