    Hi I have terriable radio coverage here but have excellent broadband.
    Was thinking of geting a radio that works over the internet.just want it for irish talk radio stations
    A few questions:
    1. do they work well?
    2 what is the difference in a dab radio and an internet radio?
    2. are there any drawbacks things to look out for?
    3 any recomendations want to spend as little as possible to listen to tippm fm, newstalk etc

    Do you have an old mobile phone that has a half-decent battery and can connect to your wi-fi? If so then consider buying a Bluetooth speaker, use the old phone with radio apps to connect to the wi-fi and it can send the audio via Bluetooth to the speaker. Or if you buy a Bluetooth speaker with an 'Aux in' port, you can connect the phone to the speaker by cable and prolong battery life on both devices.

    You can buy a Bluetooth speaker for anything from €20 up, you won't get an internet radio for anything like that.

    A DAB radio picks up digital radio which in Ireland these days is just the main RTE stations plus a few like RTE Gold, RTE Radio1 plus and so on. None of the independent stations broadcast on DAB which has an uncertain future so I wouldn't be investing in it ...

    Would an echo dot work?
    That roberts is very expensive and it is only for my office

    Yes , the echo dot should work. And it can be connected to a stereo for better sound if needed. It should have all the tunein stations. Or you could use bluetooth on the dot to play radio apps from a phone.

    I've had a Roberts Stream 202 since 2009, it's been great. I've little to no interest in Irish radio and listen to the BBC. As standalone devices they are expensive, yeah. I think the Stream 107 was probably the least pricey of the Roberts (still not cheap, though) and newer ones have a few more bells and whistles like Spotify, Bluetooth. There are others like Pure, but I dunno if they've as much choice in models.

    A smart speaker is probably the way to go. Plenty of discussion in the Home Automation forum re Google Home (I've a mini), Echo Dot, etc. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1777
