Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Why do some W@nkers think they have more chance of selling a car by showing a low price in their Ad title but are really looking for significantly more when you click on the Ad?
    Just one example below;

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/mazda-mx5-rs-1-8/19291641

TBH, if anything it puts me off even ringing them as I feel they are trying to be smartasses before I've even made contact.
It would be better for all if they just put €0 in the Title and revealed the asking price in the Ad details.
I was looking at 3 different Models over the weekend and came across a lot of this crap. Could just have been the particular Models I was looking at (all on DD BTW)

    Rant over....:(

Report the ad. Simple. Donedeal are usually helpful

As soon as I see an advert like that I just click on the next button. If they cannot write up an advert with sincerity then they are not worth engaging with. Them and the tools who state they are not pushed about selling and will keep it if they don't get their ridiculous asking price.

It's full of clowns, this is a snip at €42 million https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/2005-land-rover-freelander/18988931

It's also likely they've been struggling to sell it. Re-proced the ad without changing content of the post. Seen it happen with a few cars I had my eye on lately.

I usually stick in a Report for Clocked UK Stuff. We'll see how a Report on Click/Bait goes :).

€1,234 definitely is a give away you are in for a disappointment...

Very unlikely it's a genuine mistake, the lower price is €1234 as in 1 2 3 4. How did they arrive at that asking price of numbers in that sequence? The seller is a messer imo.

I would also be disappointed if I seen €4,321

Ah yeah. I just gave that example as it was one I looked at earlier. TBH the ones who really p!ss me off are the guys who have it listed at, say, €3,000. Then at the bottom of the Ad the real price is revealed to be €6,500....as though there is a mistake on DD's part.

"Own this Land Rover for just €829,051.51 per month" (that's just the maintenance costs :pac:)

Well, after waiting 4 days for a response from DD (absolutely nothing, not even a "sorry but we can't do anything") it would seem that they are not concerned with this type of advertising.....despite their T&C's specifically mentioning 'False Advertising' as a reason to report an Ad.

    End of Story.

Just arrange to see the car. Then offer 1234 euros

What irritated me while recently purchasing a car would be ringing up a dealer who advertised a car at a certain price, only to find out it was actually the price including scrappage. They are supposed to say that in the as but more often than not they didn't. I would only deal with garages who had been upfront about their prices after realising that.

I was of the opinion that it was more to do with getting an advert to the top (or bottom) of the list of results from a search (i.e. order by price low).

I've never seen the logic in advertising a higher price than you are willing to take tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,297 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Because haggling on the price is part of the culture of buying and selling stuff in Ireland. No point in asking for exactly what you want as any buyer will want to offer you less. You build a bit of fat into the asking price to allow for that.

It's dropped to €1 now....I won't bother ringing him, it's bound to be snapped up at that price :).
