    Vegas could take a CB

Interesting to see now how long Will Levis and Jalen Carter stay on the board

He's risky and ideally he'll sit for a year. They need a veteran to at least play the first half of the season. He's not a day 1 starter, there's massive talent for sure though.

For me as regards QB the best value is Tanner McKee. He's expected to be a third round pick. He's a pocket passer, 6'6" tall, he's played under center. He managed to look good on a poor Stanford team. He's extremely fast at checking down and getting rid of the ball and he played a lot under center. The downside with him is his religion which is Mormon.

Both Bears and Eagles apparently very big on Carter so I reckon we'll find out soon enough. Skorinski to Chicago I reckon.

Eagles and Bears swap 9th and 10th pick. Eagles on the clock

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,212 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Robinson at 8 is ridiculous. I think you could have traded down 5 or 6 spots and still got him.

Lots of people raving about him, I see nothing separating him and Gibbs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,212 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Jalen Carter dropped a long way due to the racing incident, there were some character concerns before that incident. I'm surprised he only dropped that far despite how talented he is.

Two tackles gone by pick 10, not looking good for the Patriots at 14. If Skoronski falls to us I'll be delighted, of course Bill could do anything, you just never know. We really need at least one OT.

    Two RBs going early

  • Posts: 13,688 ✭✭✭✭ Rosalie Wailing Pennon

Cardinals GM "Doesn't foresee it happening" (Hopkins being traded).

Quite possibly standard negotiating carryon but at least I can carry on having fun trying to see who Ravens would pick at 22 i.e. trying to suss out what CBs will be left.

All I want is for the Chiefs to draft a WR first up

  • Posts: 13,688 ✭✭✭✭ Rosalie Wailing Pennon

Did Christian Gonzalez break into a convent and assault a dozen nuns this afternoon?

    Where the f*ck is he?

Not complaining as we're floating toward pick 22 but...

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,171 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

We've had plenty of people when he was drafted and through the tail end of his MVP year that didnt think he could play QB.

During discussions about his contract you can still see those feelings coming through

Bet the Patriots didn’t expect to pick him at 17

  • Posts: 13,688 ✭✭✭✭ Rosalie Wailing Pennon

    Gonzalez is awf to Bawssston-ish!

Shame he had to end up there but a class pick.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,171 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

Have you ever negotiated before? You find a middle ground.

We don't know what was the back and forth between the two groups, as the leaks were clearly coming from the Ravens side, and the deal Lamar ended up with was better than what was on the table that people were shocked he turned down.

Lamar did fantastic out of this and saved a lottery win of dollars by doing it himself. Add in he leveraged a more QB friendly OC and OBJ into things.

  • Posts: 13,688 ✭✭✭✭ Rosalie Wailing Pennon

A lot of agents definitely loosed their tie and opened the top button when they saw what Lamar and his mother managed to do.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,171 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

    Draft as weird as expected.

Looking at NFC competition, delighted Richardson didn't end up in the NFCW but equally annoyed Carter fell to the Eagles. Lions look like they're making a mess of their chance to become contenders.

On AFC, steal by the Patriots and Texans acting like they are one or two guys away while their team is a shambles - not a good sign for Demeco.

    Two picks to go...

Local lad Deonte Banks and studly Joey Porter still on the board...can the Ravens resist selecting a CB?????

Zay Flowers and Smith-Njigba also still about...

I'd be delighted with any of those four or Hopkins. I'm being spoilt tonight.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,171 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

There will be plenty of media who rely on agents for tips who will be crapping on the deal over the next few days.

It ended up being a fair deal for both sides - Lamar got elite tier money like he deserved without getting to full crazy Watson money (that I believe Lamar would be able to get if he hit the same quasi FA situation).

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,171 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

Having said I'm happy the Seahawks didn't get Richardson, they've done a lot more with their picks than the Lions did. Nice CB and WR.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,212 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Ravens in real good shape at WR with Flowers added.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,917 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Flowers was my hope and I would've been happy to trade up. Three good WRs gone now, maybe they'll just go defense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,212 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I thought the Vikings would have taken Levis there to sit behind Cousins for a year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,212 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

The only corner ever taken in the first round by Belichick was Devin McCourty. So I'd expect Gonzalez to be very good. We usually find great ones as undrafted free agents like Malcolm Butler, JC Jackson and Jonathan Jones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,212 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

How is Mayer not the first tight end off the board?

  • Posts: 13,688 ✭✭✭✭ Rosalie Wailing Pennon

    All is forgiven, John.

I'm so happy and excited for the season to start I've put a Baroque and Rococo on us to win SB LVIII at a juicy 25/1.

I love the way they always try to make us feel bad for these guys who fall in the draft.

Yeah sorry man, one mildly bad day and after that all you'll have is your incredible talent, fame, dream job, beautiful girlfriend, millions of dollars and your youth. Tough break.

As an eagles fan hard to not be over the moon with that

  • Posts: 13,688 ✭✭✭✭ Rosalie Wailing Pennon

So where's Levis gonna end up...

    Raiders?

    Titans?

Raiders arguably most in need but went with Wilson in Round 1 and can't begrudge them that, great talent. Titans addressed their biggest need so wasn't a shocker they didn't go for QB in 1st round.

I was thinking maybe Vikings might make a dive at one but they're without a pick.

    Tampa?

I thought him putting mayonnaise in his coffee was just a meme because he's so white or so dull but I've just seen a video of him doing it. Dirty article.

I hope those are elastic bands he has in his knees.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,123 ✭✭✭Blut2

Both you (and Lamar apparently) were saying he was absolutely worth more guaranteed money than Watson, and that he should get in excess of Watson's $230mn guaranteed. He settled for $185mn guaranteed, after zero other teams in the league made him an offer.

That to me would seem like you were both proven rather wrong.

Cam Robinson getting suspended really forced the Jags hand but the draft seemed to fall kindly at least.

Gotta love the lack of knowledge from draft insiders. For the last week I have been hearing about Stroud falling and Levis rising on draft boards.

What time does Round 2 start tonight? 12?

When you look at what it cost both teams to move up from #12, then the Cardinals fleeced the Texans and emerged with the best OT in the draft. Don't like that move from the Texans at all. Feels like Caserio taking a swing to keep himself in a job tbh.

Couple of really strange picks by the Lions. Kind of rooting for them to progress as a team, but feels like they messed up last night.

Really happy with the Patriots night. Gonzalez and another 4th (4 of them now) is a great evenings work. You'd have thought we'd be giving up a 4 to go up and get him.

Ah most of these draft insiders only know was much as organisations are willing to tell them! Teams seem to be getting a lot better at holding their cards close

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,159 ✭✭✭cosatron

Why are ye pissing off Rodgers already with best wide receiver and tight end on the board and ye draft a olb. GM Rodgers will not be happy.

  • Registered Users Posts: 981 ✭✭✭Lionbacker

With regards to the Lions, after listeneing to GM Brad Holmes press conference, I'm convinced they were gonna take Witherspoon with the 6th pick till Seattle unexpectedly went that way. But yeah, strange picks they ended pivoting to after trading down, but Brad seems really happy with their haul so far. Got three 2nd round picks tonight so looking forward to seeing who they choose.

I actually don't think they're looking at the draft for much immeadite contributors like in previous years, after fixing their biggest weakness that was the secondary during free agency. So I don't think it a major disaster that some a making it out to be. I beleive the draft picks are mainly looking a few years down the line with a vision for the future at each position.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,212 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Thing is the scouts, for the most part, aren't much better.

Like I'm no expert but I've called some which seemed pretty clear to me over the years and they weren't picked in the first round.

For instance at QB the first thing I look at is what a QB does under pressure. If a guy is holding onto the ball running backwards regularly I'll draw a line through him. If he's looking to throw it away and going down taking the sack if it's not on that's a real good sign I think. After you see all that then you look at awareness, check down speed and obviously accuracy, arm strength, throwing motion and footwork.

For me though if you are the type who panics under pressure or want to be a hero on every play you have no hope of making it in the NFL.

I love receivers who move around to make it easier for the QB to complete the pass but a lot of scouts put speed first ahead of hands and iq. Justin Jefferson had incredible hands and that ability to move around and make it easier for his QB to complete a pass. He was the fourth receiver taken behind Ruggs, Jeudy and Lamb. I loved Lamb too and again his movement was incredible but I had him and Jefferson as the top two in that draft class.

When you look at all the top receivers in the NFL and I'm talking Jefferson, Kupp, Hopkins, Adams, Hill, Chase and AJ Brown, they all have that ability to make it easier for the QB.

Look at first round picks who haven't been as good like Cooks, Agholor, Dorset and Watkins and they don't have that. There's plenty of total busts as well but I'm sticking with players who are still playing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,171 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

You're claiming Lamar to be wrong and have based you continuous gripes about him over the last few months on completely unsubstantiated rumours about what his demands were.

My argument wasn't that he was 'absolutely worth' more guaranteed money than Watson, it was that Lamar had a valid argument to make if he was trying to do that (again, completely unsubstantiated).

Similarly, last week my point was that Lamar had a valid argument to make that his contract should be better than what Hurts received.

Lamar got the best QB deal in per year value and guarantees for a player not moving teams. If that is being 'proven rather wrong', more players should try it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,171 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

There are always smokescreens but this year it made even more sense to do it given quality not being good this year.

There was basically no top tier talent that didn't have some kind of negative.

So many teams could see players different ways so it made sense to leak as most things were believable.

good night for the eagles last night from everything I’ve seen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,212 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Also you just never use the Browns as a comparison. They have some of the worst contracts in the NFL with Watson, Amari Cooper and Denzel Ward.

    They overpay a lot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,638 ✭✭✭phatkev

Jets have historically been nearly as bad as Green Bay for not going offense in the 1st round, especially if you ignore the multiple **** QBs they've taken high😅 The new front office have changed it up a bit, the last 3 years they've ended up with at least one offensive in the 1st

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,171 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

Definitely positive, they basically took the top players on the draft analysts boards when their picks came, two guys who 'fell'.

Kind of similar to last year where their picks were hailed after the first two nights of the draft but then all ended up all being rotation guys or backups.

Not sure if they're immediately that much better than this time yesterday, as they were additions in spots where they were already strong, but the guys they picked could end up being great long term.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,212 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Sauce wasn't a rotational player, neither was Garrett Wilson.
