Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Mod Warning: I'm reopening this thread but please be careful with your posts. Regardless of your personal opinions I don't want to read posts about how a woman deserves to be hit or about how being drunk is some sort of excuse. For the remainder of this discussion I only want to see posts about how this relates to football and associated on-field impacts.

So do we think any team takes the reputational and PR damage of picking Hunt up today?

If Chubb wasn't doing so well I'd suspect the Browns might go for him given how Dorsey drafted him and how he has no qualms about player off the field issues.

I don't think we find out who claims him until 4pm on Tuesday.

The ending of the Steelers Chargers game was crazy. The Steelers went offsides 3 times in a row trying to block the game winning FG and the 3rd time they went offsides, they were so offside that the Steelers player was able to jump past the kicker and the Chargers kicked the ball behind him for the win!

Surprised more teams don't do that. Zero downside really and could time it perfect and block the effort.

True but every time you mess up the timing, the kick gets closer and easier so there is a drawback and also if the kicker misses naturally, then you give him a second chance.

Although the Chargers kicker missed the first attempt but i think that had as much to do with several Steelers being very far offsides throwing off the kick.

All true. Think it makes more sense than "icing the kicker". Hate that BS.

I mean how is this different to Ray Rice ? He was only ****canned by the NFL after the video emerged. Whether it's the right thing to do or not, kareem hunt should be given the Ray Rice treatment as that was the standard set by the NFL back then.
This is totally different, it's not even close to being the same. Kareem Hunt didn't do anything too serious.
The biggest shame in all if this is that Kareem Hunt has been cut, and rightly so, but the hypocrisy is so obvious as they drafted a man who punched and choked his pregnant girlfriend.
So what we've learned from this is that everything is ok as long as it's not on video.

I remember when RGIII was called a diva but you would never know it now

He’s been the model backup in Baltimore, couldn’t ask for anymore. Preparing for each game and helping the rookie. Had a very good preseason and did a solid job on an 8 minute drive yesterday

In locker room interviews he even discusses his faith though a lot of players are religious so that isn’t unique. I don’t know why reporters bring that up after a game but sure their readers must want it. Must be an American thing

Is a FA next year and I think he’ll have a long career :)

I'm glad to hear that, he was such an exciting player coming into the league that first year, I loved to watch him play, glad he found a place for himself even if he will never be THAT guy.

They missed the first kick, if they hadn't been offside they'd have gone to overtime. That's the downside

I just posted this in the Packers thread but maybe here would be better.

McCarthy got the boot and I started thinking about things. Imo he got a great innings in Green Bay and for a while I thought he was really good. Then I started to wonder if the brilliance of Aaron Rodgers was making him look better than he actually was. So Rodgers hasn't had a great year and now McCarthy is gone.

What I'm wondering is if Aaron Rodgers is on the slide? He definitely hasn't look the same player this season as in past years. I thought he look a bit like he just doesn't care at times but maybe it could be that age has caught up with him a bit quicker than it has with other great QBs.

His having q down year no doubt. But he has 3500 yards, 21 td and 1 int. The scheme this year was horrific, first down was a pass, 2nd down was a run and third down was a pass, rinse and repeat. I think a new voice and scheme might get the juices going again cause he did make some nice throws this year and was very good against the rams which as it transpires was a major turning point for the worse.

it would've been nice for them to pay that close attention to the line on the Chargers first TD and a blatant false start. It make no sense for it to be unreviewable too.

Referee got sacked when the Chargers scored against the Browns the same way last time.

I honestly believe its part to do with coaching and partly what's around him. Cobb is gone this year, Jimmy Graham is a bust in gb, so that leaves him with realistically one targer he can throw to. The team around him are average at best and I know If I was sitting there today after a player dropped the easiest pick of his career to lose us the season I'd be wondering what the **** happened

Brandon Browner says hello to jail for 8 years. Reading up on his recent “activities”, I hope he sees every bit of that time. Wouldn’t be any harm if he managed to tack on another few years while he’s in there.

After winning three games on the bounce disaster has struck the Broncos.

Chris Harris Jr was likely lost for the rest of the season with a broken fibula.

Today it was reported that Emmanuel Sanders has be placed on IR with a torn Achilles (a potentially career-ending injury for a 31 year old WR).

    This is pretty amazing:

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BrDyZx1Akxl/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=bxosfpvcvms8

I remember seeing the injury live and it was the scariest thing i have every seen. There was two shocking parts, seeing in slow motion his neck buckle as he made the tackle and then as he push himself with his arms off his stomach and on to his back and his lifeless legs just flopped over...i instantly thought he was going to be paralyzed from the waist down.

Him standing with a cane at an NHL game a couple of months later was amazing but now apparently he's back jogging and deadlifting, thats just incredible.

Also not to be forgotten is that the Steelers converted his 2018 $8m salary into a signing bonus so he gets the money instantly was an extremely classy move.

Holy **** that's amazing. I remember watching that game (there was an unusually high number of us on here watching and chatting about it, wasn't it like Thursday or Monday game?) and it was horrific, sickening even. Like yourself, I thought at the time it looked like he was going to be in a wheelchair for life, it was the kind of moment where you have to ask yourself if football is really worth it at all. Really glad to see that.

And yeah fair play to the Steelers, I wonder how many of us could say for sure that the team we follow would do it? I'd like to think they would...

I think the Bears re-signed Zach Miller to a guaranteed contract so they would continue to treat him.

Most teams iirc stand by players who are seriously injured on field. It's different when they are retired they don't give a ****. But live on TV in front of millions is bad for pr

Why is everyone flipping out because McVay was able to name 11 Bears defensive players in his press conference and say very vague things about them? That's not impressive.

The guy is a bit of a freak though, in defense of everyone else. A few weeks ago a video was going around of him being interviewed and asked about what plays he ran at specific times of a few games 2-3 years and he could just reel them off the top of his head, how they went, why he picked them, and exactly what each skill player was doing on it. I don't recall seeing anything like that from any coach in any sport ever.

I also still love his honesty about how he rose up so quickly in the NFL (even though as we all know now, he's an amazing coach and overall football mind) when asked in an interview a while back - "nepotism" (his granddad was VP of football ops for the 49ers from 1980-96, and was 1989 NFL exec of the year).

Reggie McKenzie has been fired as Raiders GM. Not surprising really given that when Gruden arrived he was basically neutered as a GM. He should have walked when it became clear Gruden had the control that a GM has.

Presume there's a very big difference in pay-out when it comes to walking and being fired so it isn't surprising. Have to look at every coach and GM decision with that in mind.

Isn't it nuts that a plausible scenario has a team below .500 making a wild card spot? Has that ever happened before? And in the "loaded" NFC, no less. We all assumed during the summer that the AFC was weaker, but AFC teams are 4 wins ahead in inter-conference tussles.

Most pundits on national TV rarely watch games. Their takes are awful so it's not surprising to me they'd link him to the job. They are basing their opinion off how highly regarded he was last season.

The only national show I have time for these days is GMFB. They seem knowledgeable at least.

That's why I love Stugotz on the Dan LeBatard Radio Show. He admits to not watching games or teams or players but still comes out with hot takes on them. And most of his takes aren't too far off what the 'experts' are saying.

It looks like Carson wentz won't play on Sunday night against the Rams in LA. It's funny that last season he was injured against the Rams in LA and now he won't play because of back soreness.
