Trump is just laying the groundwork for his excuses after the debate.

Thanks for the correction on the no ad breaks. Given this is coming from the co owned corporation know as the commission on presidential debates the president cannot complain as the Republicans co own the company.

Ah so Trump was doing a version of “many people are saying” but with the debate.

Apparently Biden asked for 2 breaks , one at 30 minutes and one at 60 minutes - Not sure if that's accurate , but that's what the article on Fox said.

In terms of the ear piece and drug test requests , that's Trump laying the groundwork for potential excuses if it doesn't go well tonight.

Biden has already told him to get stuffed regarding the Drug tests and may do the same with the ear piece question.

So Trump at least has the "He must have been using PED's" excuse in the bag.

There are some interesting videos for tonight on sky bet

To win based on CNN (cue outrage by Trump supporters) snap poll Biden 1/4 Trump 11/4

3/1 for the words "unfit for office" to be used

A decent 5/1 for disinfectant and 6/1 for greatest president ever you could even get 25/1 for Megan Markle getting a mention.

3/1 is surely the easiest money bet of the year?

Might do a wee double with "greatest president ever"

Edit: can't do multiples so I have done two single bets on "greatest president ever" and "unfit for office" to get mentioned by either candidate during the debate.

I love how sky bet have a debate bingo section :D

I wish Biden well. The thought of four more years of Trump makes me feel queasy. I must say though I'm concerned.

What worries me about the debates is Trump will go very low and personal, essentially trying to concoct a series of memes to be unleashed in ads for the coming weeks. Problem for Biden in that scenario is if he tries to rise above it and not get caught in a tit-for-tat exchange, that could be construed as weakness on his part. And if he goes toe to toe with him in such exchanges, it may not come off well either. As Mark Twain once put it, "Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference."

    Good response from Biden.

Biden is so good at speaking to the viewers, not once has Trump looked to speak to the camera.

He is still getting under Biden’s skin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,085 ✭✭✭✭BonnieSituation

He gets under everyone's skin. It's all he can do.

Biden has lost his cool but has lost it well, ie. just didn't tell him to "f**k off" which is what I think most would have done.

Wallace is being a lot harder on Biden on theoreticals than he is on Trump for things he ACTUALLY done. It's disappointing.

It's supposed to be a debate. Not an address to the nation. Biden constantly looking at the camera just came across rehearsed. We didn't need a Presidential Debate to see Biden speaking to the camera, he can do that from his basement.

Lying about Trump calling dead soldiers losers (and using his deceased son as a prop) won't go down well with those might have voted for him but know that to be a lie.

Trump under performed though and Biden should have capitalized but didn't.

Wallace very biased with some of his "questions" but that's to be expected from him.

Either way, doubt the needle moved much on either as far as the electorate is concerned.

I disagree about the addressing the people of america part.

What about all the shouting and the lies from trump around the vaccine being very close, the voter fraud etc?
Never mind Trump not denouncing White Supremacy.

Questions are always going to be biased but at the end of the day I honestly did not hear any actual policy from Trump and only bits from Biden.

That “debate” was not Presidential whatsoever.

You could say some of it was exaggerated maybe, but it's far from "lies":

    https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/518073-nine-military-ballots-that-were-cast-for-trump-found-improperly-discarded
    https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/mail-in-ballots-ditch-wisconsin/

Also, Biden kept talking about absentee ballots which are solicited and Trump has always said he's fine with them (including auto-solicitation which some States have) but it's the other non-solicited ballots which Trump takes issue with.
Never mind Trump not denouncing White Supremacy.

Oh please. That's nothing but a 'When did you stop beating your wife?' question as Wallace knows well he has condemned White Supremacy multiple times, even in addresses to the nation for heaven sake. It's a disgraceful question at this stage.

If you go to the following clip at 1m 10s you'll see that Trump has even condemned them to Chris Wallace before, at a debate in 2016:

And now as we speak liberals are going nuts on Twitter saying Trump was dog whistling to Neo Nazis. This crap never stops and true to form, the liberal media do their bit and amplify this nonsense:

The 80 million ballots he keeps saying?

Here are the states automatically sending ballots for this election:

    Colorado - Already did
    Oregon - Already did
    Utah - Already did
    Hawaii - Already did
    Washington - Already did

    The new ones doing it:

    California
    Vermont
    Nevada
    New Jersey
    DC.

Which of those is the worry exactly? They're gonna steal Utah?

What questions were biased? Asking Trump to denounce white nationalists?

This wasn’t a debate, it was a shouting match. Biden lost his cool because Trump is an arrogant blowhard and a clown.

Cancel the other debates now. They’ll just be more of the same.

Proud Boys think he was talking to them...

    The Proud Boys are gentlemen.

Refused to go to Charlottlesville and threw one of their members out when he attended alone.

What's laughable is referring to them as white supremacists.

They roughed a few Antifa thugs who had waited for them outside a meeting and who threw bottles of urine at them, but that's hardly objectionable.

You think Donald Trump is a decent and genuine guy. You think the proud boys are gentlemen. Then you expect us to to take anything you say seriously?

The proud boys are thugs. You can ague they aren't white nationalists, but there is no reasonable argument to be made for them being gentlemen.

Former White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney was in Ireland last week and gave an interview on Six-One News. He said he only expected 1 debate and that Trump would find a reason not to do the other 2 debates. I was thinking no way but as the Dana Bash from CNN said, that was a sh1tshow!!! Would we even want another 2 debates after that?

So from a brief glance at Twitter it seems the debate was a mess and many people saying don’t bother with the others. I see trump wouldn’t shut up and it became a shouting match. Glad I couldn’t stay up and watch it but I’ll be able to hear a summary later today from an MSNBC podcast.

Do I think they believed that...no not at all.

Do I think they tried to muddy the waters by spreading a rumour by seeding it with the usual biased tits (e.g. a "journalist" from breitbart) etc...100%.

Did anyone but his base fall for it? Nope imo, the fact Biden openly mocked it himself helped.

It seems trump was given a lay up to denounce white supremacy and throw a brick at that question. How do you not denounce white supremacy in a presidential debate ? It seems there is equal parts annoyance and pity for Chris Wallace the Moderator.

Genuinely dont think anyone could moderate Trump as he was tonight. I mean, how do you when you halt the speaker with the floor, to tell the other one that they must stop interrupting as they agreed that they wouldn't, and 6 seconds later they are doing it again.

Doubtless, the narrative built will be that Biden was rattled; the classic Sealion defence where Trump badgered, shouted and behaved in a manner unbecoming of a grown adult in his 70s - let alone a President - but the one or two moments of Biden snapping back will be zeroed in as a flaw. Ye gods but that was a horror show. Even 2016 Trump against Clinton managed something resembling a debating style. Last night was an unhinged tantrum.

The debate went about as well as anyone could expect. Opinions were never going to be swayed at this stage so all that can be read is how much Sunk Cost has gripped certain individuals. An insistence upon Trump as a winner, or panacea to American politics, as opposed to the impatient, brattish individual he clearly demonstrated himself as. Watching a Fox anchor - Fox for goodness sake - plead with the President to stop behaving like a hysterical teen is itself instructive. The great dealmaker? Well I suppose Trump might be, if throwing a fit 'til the other side gives in through exasperation can be construed a tactic. A 74 year old man screaming and shouting in a total strop; it's kind of pathetic.

I'm somewhat amazed by the amount of media organisations today taking this as a failure for Biden. They're characterising it as Biden losing his cool, demeaning himself, "ruining democracy".

We know from debates with Clinton, that she maintained her composure, stuck to the policy points, and it won her no favours.

There's the old joke about wrestling a pig in the mud; but at the same time if someone is rolling in mud and flinging it in your face while you stand there and try to talk sense to them, then you look like a fool.

Your average American doesn't want a boring political debate discussing policy. They want a mudfight.

Telling Trump to shut up on the public stage is what half the planet have wanted someone to do for four years. Calling him a racist and a liar. The last four years has been constant pearl-clutching; media and politicians saying, "Yes, we know that what Trump is, but it's not polite to say it. It's beneath us to get down to his level".

Biden had the balls last night to say it, and I think it'll do a lot more for his support than the media think.

Well to start with the fact that Trump flatly and persistently refused to abide by the rules, and even by the instructions of the moderator.

As an aside he sounded absolutely childish doing his 'well tell him too' stunt, little boy answering back to his ma!
