Retiring on day one of the presidency citing health concerns. I like your style.

He doesn’t forget what year it is.

He wanders off camera while talking clearly and intelligently about an important point.

It’s Joe Biden. 20 years ago he made the same mistakes. People love him for it, not in spite of it. He’s probably the most popular VP of the last 50 years, maybe longer.

I wouldn’t agree with him on policy, but he’s very far from senile and charismatic as hell. No cleverly edited video is going to change peoples minds.

Curious as to how much of a car crash the one on one debates will be?
Ultimately imagine his will be one of the most crucial VP picks.

The debates will be solid gold entertainment.

Do yourself a favour and watch Biden v Ryan in 2012. Now imagine if Ryan was a big orange bully.

The senile thing is very much so the exact same ploy used against Clinton tbh who is still in grand health. Half the things that get him called senile would mean I've been suffering from early onset dementia by age 28.

He is far from my preferred candidate, that was Warren but I get why he's being chosen over Sanders. I honestly don't think he could have won an election. Biden does actually have an appeal with voters that Sanders simply never reached. And ultimately this election is getting rid of Trump even if it does result in returning to a status quo.

Just like the crookedness, the senelity is just projection

He is a million miles from the Joe Biden that debated Paul Ryan in 2011/12.

Even in 2015/16 he was a lot sharper.

There is marked decline in his mental capacity.

Remember it well, one of the more lively veep debates. Suppose the Biden/Bernie one might give us a preview of what to expect this year.

You obviously didn't see any of the debates so far. If you did you'd know that this is just a minor example of whatvl went on in live debates.

If you've decided he's senile any miss step is going to just confirm that for you.

He's clearly not senile or really in much of a decline. He's just a bit older.

The emergence of the Coronavirus and its implications for America will be the sole factor that determines the result of the forthcoming election. If fears are borne out and America experiences Italian style effects of the disease you're talking millions infected and tens of thousands of deaths all on Trump's watch. The irony is alot of Trump's base are elderly and are prime candidates to get this disease. His inaction, his incompetence and his own failure to get tested after having shaken the hand of Brazilian president who is now confirmed positive himself, will be laid bare for even his supporters to see.

Throw in the fact that the economic impact on America of this virus will precipitate a recession and you're talking 'perfect storm'. I simply don't see how a clown like Trump can survive politically, and that's if he even survives this pandemic himself given his advanced years and failure to get tested.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,053 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

reg114, how on earth do you think the above? You are wildly grasping at straws there. This is a world wide pandemic, it's not isolated to the US.
Are you calling for the heads of the leaders of every country where there has been deaths because of covid-19?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 919 ✭✭✭The Phantom Jipper

Biden being old is priced in at this stage, sure the chap looks like the Crypt Keeper, so his age is hardly a secret.

I don't think the senile angle is a winning argument for Trump. Biden's flubs are generally harmless, struggling to grasp for a word, getting sidetracked etc. Trump has literally just had a senior moment during his recent address, forgetting or not knowing the details of his own plan and causing chaos, panic and destroying billions of market value.

White House says there's no need to test Trump even though he had direct contact with a confirmed case.

Biden not Trump is the one looking presidential, reassuring the public in his public addresses over past week or so. His speech on Tuesday was excellent.

This is a time of crisis across the world. People will look to their leaders for guidance and they aren't getting that with Trump.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,053 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Whose gonna trust that a guy acting like Biden wouldn't press the button with an aggressive general in his ear? Can you trust him to make decisions.
We all, or the large majority of us, want Trump gone but the Dems haven't got a leading candidate who will beat him I don't think.

I don't live over there anymore but if I did I wouldn't vote because I'd never vote for Trump and I wouldn't vote for Biden or Sanders either.

And the US alongside the UK should be the leaders in terms of handling it. Neither are. This includes the fact that Trump defunded a cdc team designed to handle this exact situation and refuses to even accept responsibility for that. Plus only weeks ago he was claiming it was a hoax..

I don't think a stammer causes you to name your daughter instead of your wife, or fail to remember the date of an election

    A former Chairman of the GOP agrees with you;

Michael Steele, former chairman of the Republican National Committee, said: “The most calming and reassuring presidential voice of the past 24 hours has been Joe Biden. As a Republican, this is hard for me to say but it’s true.”

I appreciate this a somewhat crass question given the circumstances but how do people think this will play out if Trump tests positive for the virus? Sympathy for his plight or a net negative given his propaganda about the seriousness of the pandemic?

Guaranteed fox news will portray him as the heroic president who is putting his health at risk for the sake of America despite the constant attacks from the evil radical socialist democrats. Realistically if he tests positive its down to his own lackluster attitude

Is it not the people that are voting for him that's "at fault". There were about a dozen candidates and it appears Biden is who *they* are choosing.

That's because they didn't put forward a decent candidate in the 40-55 age bracket.

The majority of people in the US will sadly, in a few weeks be very glad to have Biden in the WH, ASAP.

You have it backwards. The voters didn’t choose a candidate you like. The choice was available and rejected.

Sadly that is indeed the case in fact the voters on this occasion had more then one option available and rejected both.

Which candidate, the gay one or the Asian looking one? Neither of them would win an election. Beto was the only one who had a hope against Trump but he obviously is very lazy and didn't do his homework.
The guy I wanted to run didn't, he was probably told he is not worthy. That's Martin Heinrich, he'd beat Trump by a wide margin.

You're blaming the Democrats for not putting up a candidate you think will win. They don't really choose. The voters do, so I am not really sure how you can and the Democratic party.

It's simple really. I look out for potential candidates and when I see a great one i keep talking about him.
All you have to do is a bit of research and I'm pretty sure you'd be in agreement that he'd make a great candidate.

I have to say it's good to see a robust argument from people who actually have respect for each other.

Both are gonna come out of this stronger and Trump is really looking impotent now.

Bernie need to be in the next administration no matter what. He's got a lot to give with his passion.
