Ya I’ll have to get all that stuff....bloody nightmare that! Christ

It's only your blood realitives so you won't need the information of your Aunties husband for example. Just your mother and fathers brother and sisters. Exhausting.

Well like every Irish person of my generation (31) my parents have plenty of brothers and sisters.

Ya this will be hard work alright, o well no pain no gain

Is there an obscure information I should find out that I may need to fill out the form B? To help me get it filled out as much as possible?

You will need the name, address, date of birth of the following:
Parents, Siblings, Aunts, Uncles and Grandparents even if they have passed away.

If your married or living with a partner you will need the same details for their family.

If they haven't changed anything since I went through the process last year Form B and the competencies should be in the invite on Public Jobs. Just click on the Familiarisation Material and Form B and it should bring up the info.

I cannot find the link for information on the Form B or the competences. Iv looked through the familiarisation link provided in the interview invite. Any idea where I can get more info? Thanks

They might not have sent it yet. I definitely didn't get my form b straight away. I wouldn't bother being an hour early, just be prepared enough that if you are called in slightly early that you are ready to go! I assumed that I would have the time, so I was surprised to get called in ahead of schedule. It threw me off for the first few mins of my interview for sure!

If it's the same as last year you should the information when they send you a confirmation of the date and time of the interview. Best thing to do is to start to try to get the information needed for Form B. It can be quite tiresome if you have family living aboard.

Well I have got my confirmation email confirming my interview date/time etc

Iv gone through both that email and the one offering me the interview. Iv gone through the familiarisation material and don’t see anything about the competencies or the Form B.

I’ve found ones online though and I’ll go off them for my information needed on the day.

My dad has fallen out with his two sisters so I won’t have Date of births for them but what can you do I guess. I’ll have their year of birth.

They will give you a week to get them. Can get their DOBs from the GRO office in town.

Email PAS and ask them for a link to Form B. There's more to it than your relatives info and it has to be typed.

In the event dates of birth cannot be confirmed, will garda HQ say that because we could not be fully vetted that we are ineligible? I read in the materials sent out that this is a possibility

The more information you put down, the easier and quicker it will be to vet you.

I would be very surprised if you couldn't find dates of birth in the GRO office, parish offices, genealogy websites or social media. It's just an awful pain.

Take an educated guess at the general year and location of birth, you know the name, it's a matter of flicking through the books to get the dates and then getting a copy of the birth cert if you really need to be sure you have the right person.

I don't know what happens if you don't produce the dates and addresses. They give you x amount of time to get them. Can ask for more if you need it or explain why it's impossible for you to get them - bearing in mind you are applying to be a guard and there is detective work involved and talking to people who don't like you - I think the form they give you at interview looking for the outstanding info says your application will be given no further consideration if you don't respond within x days or something like that.

Not sure what happens when there is no father on a birth cert.

That is true and the whole detective angle of it crossed my mind as well. In edge cases where the person loves abroad and is deceased/homeless it can be an issue. In this case Garda HQ told me to put the last known address.

I don't think we're allowed to give specifics, but there is loads of info on boards if you look for it. I learned a lot of the background info- about the college, the modules, specialist units etc and didn't use 90% of it but I felt more confident going in knowing it.

The fella I went to for interview prep gave me one bit of advice which was, there is no harm in being asked a question that you genuinely don't know or maybe couldn't know the answer to. But if they ask you something about information that is freely available on their website for example, and you don't know it, you're going to feel like a fool and it's going to negatively impact your confidence.

It's all in the prep. Other than that, know your competencies, practice saying them out loud, make sure you are hitting all the points. They aren't out to get you, my panel were lovely and def prodded me in the right direction.

If you prepare and you can communicate that prep, you'll be grand.

One last note- do not lie. I was chatting to garda who did his interview in the last two years and someone in his application group told a lie that was unravelled in the interview(something to do with gaps in employment history I think). He was told then and there that it was over for him.

Just to add to this, defiantly don't lie and don't change your story either. For example if your asked a question about something, stick to your answer, don't start changing it. It shows you stick to what you have said and are not easily changed in this. As Garda in court etc, you'll get this quite a bit. Stick to your guns as they say.

The most basic things they ask, so know the basics. What's your local Garda station, where is the HQ, local structure - Chief Super, Super. Try not to get into politics if asked for your option on something, stay neutral in these topics.

    2 questions,

1 - how long after confirming a interview slot did you all receive the interview prep details? all I have received so far is a confirmation email for my time and date with no links to anything or attachments

2 - The competencies, are the questions you receive based on what you put on the application form? I had saved a copy of this on my laptop which crashed and had all its memory wiped in the repair shop. I am worried now I wont remember all I put down.

    1. After the cut off for changing tone slots it’s only a day or two later it will be confirmed.

    2. Interview form will be in your applications on PAS website when you log in.
