Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

8th gen Civic, squeal on cold start

Have a 2010 Civic (1.8 petrol) for a few months, great car but there's a squeal from the engine on cold starts. Only lasts for a second or two, and only occurs when the car is actually cold (much less frequent in recent weather). Apart from the noise, there's a hesitation as it goes through the rev range on startup. Car drives perfectly as far as I can tell.

Any ideas on cause? My guess is a loose belt, but as it only occurs once or twice a day it's difficult to reproduce at a garage.

Aux belt or tensioner - Tricky enough job on them.

Just awkward access or something else? Presumably any garage could do this or is it dealer-only? Thanks!

Ah no, any mechanic can do it, just a bit tight and the tensioner is awkward to get at if it needs changing

Is this the hatchback or saloon ?

Any rough estimate on the cost. 100, 500 etc.

layout of the pulleys is slightly different on the saloon, but they’re the same in terms of access and the parts are quite similar, the tensioner is around €100 and I think the belt is around €20, add labour on to that.

That said it might just need a belt.
