The problem is that he wasn't given a proper vetting beforehand. If you ignored the sexual assault accusations and vetted him properly he still wouldn't look good. There's evidence he committed perjury and withheld documents under the guise of client confidentiality. The GOP also played a part in trying to railroad him through, dropping tens of thousands of documents the night before his hearing. This whole thing was a charade before the accusations made light.

He's no angel and the GOP absolutely are trying to railroad this guy in because they want a SC majority, but let's not act like it's a one-way street here either. There's dirty politics on both sides here, with some grandstanding by some genuine ****bags looking to make a run for President on this committee (looking at you, Corey Booker).

He needed the break, he was on the ropes. The dems would have loved to keep going no doubt.

Nah even the clinton news network said he did great

He made a highly political statement and that is not appropriate to the position that he is going to fill.

    That was unprofessional, I agree.

Burden of proof falls on the accuser. Game over for this witch-hunt. Looking forward to seeing Brett flourish under Trump.

The burden of investigation should be with professionals and not this kangaroo court. If this guy did no wrong he should welcome it. Otherwise his name will be tainted until he dies.

Thought Trump would like this. Attack is the only form of defence, for him.

Probably zoned out after 20 minutes after the opening speech.

NBC have made a great point, the GOP have hung Kavanaugh by getting Mitchell, instead of having sharp political minds like Cruz and Sasse cross examine her they had a lass rushed in to do the job. Kav also won't get the rosy speeches that Ford got either.

Pretty stark contrast between Ford and Kavanaugh. She answered the questions in a timid, polite voice, smiling almost apologetically at largely unresponsive R senators. Kavanaugh is... well at the very least giving a demonsrstion in how not to be a sober, judicious, collected, non-partisan.

So he denied even being in the same house as Dr. Ford. I had previously thought he agreed that he was at the party but didn't commit the assault.

So it is a clear distinction between Ford and Kavanaugh version of events. Either he was in the house or he wasn't. I wonder after all this time, can that be proven. I don't think his calendar is enough.

He best friend who she says was with her at the party has denied she was there.

Her friend even said she never met Kavaneagh

Telling the committee how it should conduct it's business, not a good idea. Now he doing character witness on behalf of the man who didn't appear. Good for the senator to remind him he's under oath. Shouting down the committee with Grassley backing him up - this is clearly abuse of the committee process by Sen Grassley. Now he's being smart to the prosecutor as a result of Grassley giving him confidence, not such a good plan for a judge experienced of prosecutors tearing witnesses to shreds in court.

Just before the break he was bordering on incomprehensible.

Really surprising msnbc would say that their usually so fair to conservatives

Patrick Leahy being told to be fair to Brett Kavanaugh.

I reckon Trump is loving this. It sounded like Trump co-wrote his speech.

I believe he is raging at McGahn for getting him into such a mess. Demanding to know why no one told him that Dr. Ford was so credible.

Gave him the benefit before the break as I understand the anger, but this is a very poor performance so far. No reason to swerve those questions, definitely a concern when the big hitters get a go at him.

He's asking a yes or no question robert. He could have said "not to my knowledge" in answering senators leahys question about the Bart O Kavanagh character in the book, and that would have been fine. He didn't answer that question.

I guess that's what they get for giving the job to an 'assistant'!! ;)

    Durbin just sprung a Trap.

"Turn to your left and ask Don Magann to get the WH to launch a FBI investigation"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,723 ✭✭✭MightyMandarin

Jesus christ Grassley couldn't make it more obvious that the GOP doesn't give a **** about getting the truth out.

Durbin puts him on the spot. Crassley trying to block.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,832 ✭✭✭✭aloyisious

Has he just admitted that he was interviewed by a police agency in relation to alleged sex offences? He has already stated to the committee under oath that he was not involved In any alleged sex offence. Grassley refuses permission to Kavanaugh to seek advice from a lawyer present in the senate room.

Yeah, suggesting that the FBI do a thorough investigation is desperate.

As it stands, Kavanaugh can't answer it.
