Hi i hope im asking in the right place.
Ive storage heaters and a nightsaver meter. The landlord is upgrading the heaters and will more than likely be electric not storage. So is it possible to change the meter to 24hr rate? I presume this would be the most appropriate for the electric heaters.. and im also on prepay power, not by choice, and wish to change, do i have to give them 30 days notice (the account is the landlords) or do i change over to new provider and just get a deactivation code from them.
    Thanks

    Hi princesspe1,

Thank you for getting in touch.

We need to advise that there is a charge from ESB Networks of approximately €200 (no matter which billing or Pay As You Go electricity company the customer is registered with) to replace a day/night meter with a 24-hour meter.

The night rate is in effect from midnight until 9am, and from 1st August it will be approximately 9.5 cent per unit (including VAT). The day rate will be approximately 20 cent per unit (also including VAT).

To register with Electric Ireland, just switch online or register your interest in a Pay As You Go (PAYG) electricity meter for a call-back and when you are notified by Electric Ireland that your application has been received, contact the previous provider for their meter's deactivation code.

No notice is required (unless there is a contract in effect still with the previous provider) - maybe just let the account-holder know that you are closing their account and opening a new account in your name.

If you have any other questions we can assist with, please let us know.

    Best regards,
    Una

    Hi princesspe1,

    Thanks for your post.

The 24-hour electricity unit rate from 1st August will be just under 19 cent (including VAT).

The above rates (both 24-hour and day/night) do not include savings for direct debit/Electric Ireland Online Billing, and do not take into account the switching bonus, which is €175 if the customer switches online (as per link previously) and €160 if the customer switches via telephone.

    Best regards,
    Una
