Seatbelt tackle and unfortunately a penalty now, most likely.

Was it Nadolo who bounced Kearney two years ago?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,561 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

Not writing Byrne off. It's obvious he has major shortcomings in defense!
All players have some type of shortcoming.
Anyway, if Toner is out this weekend and out l/o struggles, I think we'll lose.
Our game plan revolves around strong set piece and if we can't secure clean ball from the l/ o. I see us on the back foot.
I think a tight possession game mixed with some aerial bombs, may serve us well.
    A kind of Munster gameplan.

I can't wait for Saturday. The first game in October was one of the best European games for years.

I'd say he's bounced pretty much everyone he's played. Don't think anyone would be too hard on Byrne for that.

Yeah it was, I was at that game behind the posts, the ease at which they scored was saddening. Get the ball wide to Nadolo off set piece. 1 v 1 with Kearney, no chance.

Yea that's my point. Failing to tackle Nadolo is not really something to worry about.

That isn’t the issue people have with Byrnes defence though. The nature of his attempts that day would be worrying, but given it was Nadolo, you wouldn’t read too much into it. It’s his general positioning and dithering defensively that causes most concern. It hasn’t been an issue so far this season though.

That's not a seat belt tackle that's a piggy back.

On a related albeit off topic point, I remember the return leg two seasons ago with Montpellier, I was right on the sidelines and Nadolo was absolutely dwarfing Heaslip. I'm fairly tall and Heaslip is a good deal bigger than I am, Nadolo is best described as optical illusion sized, he's hard to believe.

I passed Larmour on the street the other day and he's relatively short and broad but not big.

Amazing that they play the same position in the same game!

Had a real vintage feel, despite it being a problematic loss for Leinster it was a classic French thriller with everything you could ask from European rugby.

How much game time to you expect him to get during the 6 Nations?

I would say he will start all the games unless injury

I did. Could be read both ways. And your answer is?

In fact, it's indicative that you answered referring to Leinster.

    Think I'd go for:

    1. Cian Healy
    2. James Tracy
    3. Tadhg Furlong
    4. Devin Toner
    5. James Ryan
    6. Rhys Ruddock
    7. Dan Leavy
    8. Jack Conan
    9. Luke McGrath
    10. Ross Byrne
    11. Rory O'Loughlin
    12. Conor O'Brien
    13. Garry Ringrose
    14. Adam Byrne
    15. Robert Kearney

    16. Bryan Byrne
    17. Edward Byrne
    18. Andrew Porter
    19. Scott Fardy
    20. Max Deegan
    21. Jamison Gibson-Park
    22. Ciarán Frawley
    23. Jordan Larmour

No Cronin or VdF in 23? Also think that backline is too light so would start Larmour on wing instead of O'Loughlin.

Is Sean Cronin injured? Otherwise I'd say he's a nailed on starter. VDF on the bench ahead of Deegan. Noel Reid I would imagine will be in line to start ahead of O'brien.

I wrote this a few pages ago but I think there will be opportunities to score some tries if we pressure them and look to exploit space in the centres. Ntamack and Guitone left yards of space open against Wasps in the Ricoh where at least 3/4 tries were scored by Daly et al. I think if Ringrose is hungry andf our pack fronts up physically we'll do enough to win. But bonus might be too much to ask.

I think Deegan would offer more impact than JvdF off the bench. van der Flier would obviously start though if Leavy doesn't make it

Rory O'Loughlin is considerably bigger than Larmour, so your second point doesn't exactly make sense

There's absolutely nothing to suggest that Deegan would offer more than VDF off the bench. Literally zero evidence to back up that claim.

Imagine not starting one of your best players this season, never mind having him on the bench.

Ah, I just remembered VDF has a Dutch surname. Makes sense now.

Bit of an insult to Deegan, calling someone a troll for putting him on the bench

Wonder could we make an advisory list of people to place on ignore

There's 2 Hope's of ROL starting on the wing ahead of Larmour.
    Bob Hope and no hope.
I would go with Reid at 12 also.

    Healy
    Treacy
    Furlong
    Ryan
    Toner / Fardy
    Ruddock
    VDF
    Conan

    Luke McGrath
    Sexton / Byrne
    Larmour
    Reid
    Ringrose
    AB
    RK

    Cronin
    McGrath
    Porter
    Fardy / Molony
    Leavy
    JGP
    Byrne / Frawley
    ROL

Be better if boards could just block quotes from people on your ignore list.

Plenty of posters on here have plenty of previous so I'm sure Max Deegan won't take anything too personally.

Joshy V played every minute of Ireland's recent victory over the All Blacks - Max Deegan is an uncapped player albeit with buckets of potential. I doubt you will find much by way of debate anywhere between who people would pick for the bench, and that's no insult to Max.

ROL has gone very well with Ringrose in pretty big games, I'd be sticking with that.

Jordan Larnour is a dead cert to start, he’ll be on the wing with ROL at 12, he’s been very good there along with Ringrose
Can’t see COB anywhere near that team for this game
Cronin a dead cert too, by far away our best hooker
