Who would we expect to see see against Cardiff next week? I’d guess something like

    1. Ed Byrne
    2. Tracy
    3. Bent
    4. Fardy
    5. Molony
    6. Ruddock
    7. Murphy
    8. Deegan
    9. McGrath
    10. Byrne
    11. Lowe
    12. Tomane
    13. O’Loughlin
    14. Barry Daly
    15. Dave Kearney

    16. Brian Byrne
    17. Dooley
    18. Abdaladzbe
    19. Nagle/Kearney
    20. Conan
    21. Gibson-Park
    22. Tom Daly
    23. Adam Byrne

I’d imagine Reid ahead of Daly at 22 and Conan to start. Otherwise probably something close to that, which isn’t bad at all really.

Are we expecting Byrne to be back? He was with Ireland until the end of June; I wouldn't be confident of him being available at all regardless of our injury situation.

    On the bench at most

Just a guess based on first game of last year when several of the players who toured over the summer started. Byrne got no game time in Australia so is probably the most likely to be available

Good point. Healy, Cronin and ROL all started that game.

Conan got about 80 minutes in Australia.

Wont see him for a few weeks.

Ruddock to 7, Murphy to 6 and Doris to bench I reckon.

Will I be able to get a ticket at the gate? Will be home 10/1 thru 10/8.
Frawley hurt is a set back.
They should bring back Marsh imo.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see Doris jump past Murphy almost immediately.

    Possibly.

But Murphy is a very good lineout option. Deegan and Ruddock are less reliable and Doris an unknown at this stage

He’s pretty much American at this stage, that’s why it’s backwards.

It won’t be quite a sell out, not sure how you buy them on the day but they will be available. A Ticketmaster outlet would probably be your easiest route.

Remember the Kolpak crap. These three can't be in the same match day squad.

If Munster look good coming out of the blocks and with the team sheet they have this year the fixture might return to some of the bite of old and the numbers will hopefully reflect that!

I for one am very much looking forward to the build up threads.

Thought that only applied to European games?

    Nope, Pro14 as well.

Cathal Marsh off to Rugby United New York.

    Glad he found a club.

Too good for AIL not quite good enough for Leinster. Although truth be told I wouldn’t be annoyed if he’d stayed on this year for pro 14 cover

Do you seriously think MLR is a better standard than AIL?

Standard of play isn't up there yet, but it's a professional league, he'll be earning a wage and training full time.

and he'll be in New York which would be an experience in itself.

Plus he can go on the pull with Ben Foden...

I'd say the likes of Kearney/Sexton could well be in single digits for Pro 14 appearances, so still a question about who starts there for a few games.

That's always the case with any international player. Both Sexton and Kearney played in 5 Pro 14 games each last season, which includes the final. They generally get picked for the home inter pros and that's about it.

That’s a blow alright. Sopoaga is due to arrive this week but losing Gopperth will undoubtedly weaken them.

On a side note, he was suspended last time Wasps came to the RDS (shudder). It’s almost like he’s destined not to get another game there.

Leinster issued an injury update ahead of this weeks opening Pro 14 fixture:

Joe Tomane had a foot injury but has recovered.
Noel Reid injured his quad earlier in pre-season and will return to training this week.
Garry Ringrose has recovered from his injury suffered in the Australia tour. He'll be back training this week too.

VdF is progressing well from his knee injury and Leinster hope he'll take some part in training this week.
SoB and Leavy are "recuperating well" from their injuries but no date has been set for a return.

Ciaran Frawley injured his wrist in the Newcastle game and will miss the next few weeks.
Will Connors damaged his ACL against Newcastle and is out for "an extended period of time".

Ross Byrne has returned to training and should be available for selection.
