I'm definitely not a fan of how garces reffed that semi, he might as well have put a saddle on Beirne. I guess keeping possession is the name of the game, I doubt there will be many turnovers at the breakdown.

No issue with Garces. We are well familiar with him and, if people thing the game will be won by the more cynical and streetwise, we have a good shot.

Keep in mind who the referee was when we beat Saracens last season...

There’s return flights from Belfast-Edinburgh available for €95 return at the moment - over on Sat morning and back on Sun night. Train from Edinburgh to Newcastle is about €50 return and accom in Edinburgh about €150 for a night if that’s an option for anyone.

The beers must be muck if your getting beers and nibbles of a €20

Nah it’s €20 for 1 beer here, so I make it last the whole 80 minutes

    (possibly exaggerating a little)

The secret here will be to stay in the ref’s good garces.

There wasn't really any in the Toulouse or Ulster games for us though either. Leinster don't tend to poach a huge amount

Got my travel sorted. It’s roughly 10m from the fridge to the couch. Ryanair was offering cheap enough fares, train was a bit pricey, but in the end I’ve decided to walk. Know the guy who owns the joint too, so got myself front row seats for nothing. So all up about €20 for beers and nibbles, which I think is quite reasonable.

Your couch is 10 metres away from your fridge? Is it beside your outhouse?

Our house is pretty wide with a kitchen that runs into a dining room and then into a lounge. If I’m honest it’s probably about 8 m between the fridge and the couch.

    Tomane over Conor O'Brien?

Richie is going to be SO mad.

Great to have Connors back. No HOS is surprising. That says to me all isn't right with JGP to be honest.

Jaysus would have been value on betting on ulster before this team was announced.

Have you seen the Ulster team?

I dont get the logic of playing Brian Byrne but not Harry O'Sullivan. Byrne will most likely be benching in Newcastle and has had a fair amount of gametime. HoS has not.

This suggests that JGP benches in Newc and Lowe misses out.

I was just thinking that, don't get him into Symantec's

The Ulster team is very weak as well.

    15 Lowry
    14 Busby
    13 Cave
    12 Nelson
    11 Kernohan
    10 McPhillips
    9 Shanahan
    1 Warwick
    2 Andrew
    3 Kane
    4 Nagle
    5 O'Connor
    6 Rea
    7 Ross
    8 Reidy

Ulster's team is quite weak too. It's more like a Celtic Cup game.

That's a great way to lose the final.

Ross Byrne as captain is interesting

What a shame. Both managers would rather this game wasn't happening.

    JGP had an injury

Experienced front row, and experienced 10-14.

Really weak side out from Ulster as well.

Shades of the old Stephen's Day interpros off this one, will likely be a terrible game.

one of the smallest set of backs possibly to ever take the field in a celtic league game.

JGP is injured and didn't train this week.

It makes O'Sullivan missing out a bit more worrying on JGP's part because HOS is clearly third choice and would have benefitted from gametime way more than McCarthy.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,571 ✭✭✭arsebiscuits1

I was worried about how few second rows we would be able to put out.

Turns out Ulster are putting out one less ha.

2 very inexperienced sides might lead to a very entertaining game.

Hard to see anything other than a home team win

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,018 ✭✭✭Bridge93

Hugh O Sullivan is third choice. If he's not playing here it suggests to me that he is being wrapped incotton wool and JGP isnt going to be ready. If JGP was fit there'd be no reason not to play HOS or bench him.

Yeah HOS definitely needs game time and this would be a good one to keep him fresh.

Disappointing to miss out for him but if it books his ticket to the final I don't think he will have any complaints!

Pity not to see COB play this one.

As it was in the RDS I think he would cut that Ulster backline to shreds.

So anyone know how many players we'll have used this season if Baird take the field tomorrow? By my count (based solely off recollection) it would be 56.

    Healy, McGrath, Ed Byrne, Dooley
    Cronin, Tracy, Bryan Byrne, Kelleher
    Furlong, Porter, Bent, Abdaladze

Toner, Ryan, Fardy, Molony, Kearney, Nagle, Dunne, Downling, Baird

Ruddock, SOB, Conan, VDF, Leavy, Murphy, Deegan, Doris, Connors, Penny

    McGrath, JGP, McCarthy, HOS, Paterson
    Sexton, Ross Byrne, Frawley

    Henshaw, Reid, Tomane
    Ringrose, ROL, COB

Lowe, Larmour, Rob, Dave, McFadden, Adam Byrne, Daly, Keenan, JOB, Kelly, Mullen

Impressive, just one off it would appear! This is from the Leinster mailing list - "Ryan Baird is also in line to make his senior debut. If called upon from the bench, Baird will become the 57th player used by head coach Leo Cullen this season". Haven't a clue who you're missing though.
