Lowe was incredible over the weekend. Really good start to the season.

My favourite thing about him is that feeling of anticipation I get when he gets the ball. You just know something is going to happen.

The dude could ask for commission on tickets sold to Leinster games. Because some of the stuff he does is worth the admission price alone ha.

Also a word on Tomane. I thought he was very good at the weekend and has fallen victim to people who've made up their mind about him.

12 tackles 2 missed is a pretty good return.

He's got a lovely pass too and I think we will be getting some reward this year from a nice cut out pass from him.

I saw a lot of negative comments about Tomane but I don't really see what was so bad about him. I also read a lot of pre match stuff about how he was going to be murdered/dominated/crucified by Aki which categorically didn't happen.

    Nope he did very well.

I don't think he was amazing by any stretch. But playing 12 in a game like that will usually be an unspectacular task, which he did more than admirably.

I don't think he was the best player on the pitch. Nor do I think he will be up there will the all time Leinster greats.

But what we do have is a player who clearly wants to play here, taking a while to settle in but clearly is working on it.

Leinster shut down a very effective attacking team from every facet. They can only do that by 1-15 playing their part. Tomane did so.

I think to be absolutely fair some people have question marks about him and one person has a vendetta.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,200 ✭✭✭troyzer

I had my doubts. He was burned so badly in his first few starts but I think he's definitely improved, especially his positioning. That was his killer before.

I never doubted his tackling, rucking or carrying. I was just worried about him constantly leaving gaps in the line but he was vastly improved over the weekend.

Just to remind you all that James Lowe was described as "poison" very early into his Leinster career due to a few bad defensive reads.

The criticism of Tomane is vastly overblown.

Lads, does anyone have tickets for the Leinster/Wasps game they can swap?

Our season tickets are in the south stand and I was getting another two for my dad and a friend but there was a bit of a mix up and I ended up with north stand tickets.

Not the end of the world but if anyone fancied a swap, let me know.

Ticketmaster will exchange the tickets for South Stand (for €6) if you can’t get a swap

Sound, I didn't know this was an option.

    Any update on Jack McGrath?
On Conor O Brien, I just don't think he's at the level needed. I don't think he'll get a development contract either. If he hasn't passed Reid at this stage the outlook is bleak.
Then again, it is possible that none of the 3rd year academy players are not up to standard and may not get contracts.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,557 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

Adam Byrne is also on the cusp of rugby purgatory. I think a move elsewhere would be in his best interest. Shocking how far he's dropped this last year.

Depending on how bad Ruddock is (and past experience wouldn't make you optimistic), only having Will Connors, Barry Daly and Tom Daly out injured is probably the best situation Leinster have ever had.

O Brien isnt at level needed for what?
I think he will get a development contract especially when there isnt huge depth in senior squad and he'll get plenty pro14 time in a world cup year

    No Ian Nagle? That's weird.

Whoa... I just had a flashback to Munster threads circa 2010... :)

While the amount of games Nagle is playing for the A's doesn't bode too well, this really does seem to say he will be out the door at the end of this season when his contract is (presumably) up.

Jack Dunne looks to have decent attributes and showing promise. If they only think Nagle is up to A or pro14 standard, it's probably better to invest in youth.

Abdaladze, Nagle, Connors, Tom Daly and Barry Daly miss the cut from the senior squad. Frawley and O'Sullivan are the only academy players included, mostly be necessity of playing specialist positions.

Vakh and Nagle definitely surplus to requirements currently. Both have 3 ahead of them in their positions.

Obviously Connors and the Dalys are currently nursing knee injuries. All were in the long term category on Leinsters injury update so unlikely any of them would have been able to feature before January.

Frankly, I think Barry Daly would be the only real candidate for inclusion anyway.

But to be fair to Connors, we will never know how well he would have started this season

There's a surplus in his position. He's not required.

For a euro squad where we can only name a limited amount of players? He absolutely is

for the actual playing squad he is not.

for the actual playing squad he is not.

Well yeah I'd expect him to be up for Pro14 games etc this year. But I was referring to the European squad

Squad is limited to 41. No surprise to see Nagle and Abdaladze omitted.

Doesn't mean Leinster don't need good fourth (and even fifth) choice tightheads. Abdaladze will be straight into the XXIII when Furlong and Porter are off on international duty
