Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,

My old bean to cup machine has finally died, after 12 years of service.

Looking to replace it with something decent, budget of around €1k.

Have been looking at a Delonghi, but not 100% sure on how good they are.

    Any recommendations?

    Cheers,
    Dougal

Isn’t €1k for bean to cup machine seems a bit too much?
Is it for the home use, not commercial?
My point that €300 bean to cup and €1000 BTC machine would make equal poor espresso, no need to pay extra IMO ( unless it for the commercial/office use, in this case go for

or similar havy duty robust machine , designed for 24/7 use.

It’s for home use, I just want something decent that will last. Old machine cost similar money and made excellent espresso etc.

Check out the delonghi in BA

Understood, it’s just for this kind of money you could get decent grinder and decent
semi automatic espresso machine . Espresso quality would be the miles better than bean to cup for €1k ...

It is definitely BIG improvement from bean to cup.
You might have to learn some basic Batista skills ( coffee extraction , shot timing, dosing ,grinding and distribution) but at the end you'll realise how big improvement it taste wise.
Is it the one with dual boiler, heat exchanger and PID?

That’s the one. Didn’t go for the Touch, just the regular Oracle.

Touch would be absolute waste IMO

ORACLE seems to be machine with the great specifications: PID , Double boiler, Heat exchanger, heated grouphead ... All Good !
I am not sure about grinder , that might be the weak part ( I have stand along SAGE Pro grinder as a back up ,it can’t grind extra fine , and so much clumps ...)

I bought a few weeks ago and bought Sage but went with separate grinder and machine. My reason for going separate was that I could leave myself the option to upgrade either in future (but also that I could buy with two different months pay checks). I'm very happy with Sage, great value for the money and looks like it will last.
Took a while get the hang of it but I'm flying now, although I need more visitors drinking latte to improve my artwork, I drink americano without milk myself. Good luck.

Just an update on this. The Oracle is a serious bit of kit, great upgrade from a bean to cup and it’s a lot less messier. The coffee is not far off the likes of 3fe.

If anyone is thinking about getting a bean to cup, like I was, don’t.

    Glad you enjoying it!
There is always a learning curve, of course .
I’ve seen it got automatic tamping feature, which is very convenient for the newcomer.
Can it be disabled or bypassed?

For a machine that will last, I would suggest having a look at Quickmill, an Italian manufacturer. Some of their domestic machines from the early 70s are still functioning and would be why they seem to have a godd reputation for longevity and reliability. http://www.quickmill.it/ita/default.aspx

It takes a standard portafilter, so you can use a separate grinder and tamper.

I guess you can just hold portafilter in you hand , to bypass automatic tamping .
Have you considered to get Naked portafilter , it definitely
helps to improve espresso shots .

Not great. Go buy a rocket espresso machine

Sage is a bit of a let down. Rocket espresso machine is the way to go imo

It is too late for advice, he is already got one.
There are plenty of machines probably better than this but I am pretty sure Sage Oracle is a decent one.

What do you mean by let down ?
Did you own both of them, and now you prefer Rocky ?
What model are you meaning ? Where would you buy it from ?

I have a Sage myself, think for 3 years now. One thing I don't like is how you need to refresh these water filters every couple of months. But other than that, it is OK. Maybe being just OK for me is another issue - so would want to have a list of other bean-to-cup machines I could look at when this one breaks - hence my questions ...

For now I had thought to also look at Lelit - as I gifted one to a friend years ago, I was told it is good.
    - Note that I bought it from a french site that does seem to sell Rocket too - www.maxicoffee.com.

I have experience with both. I bought a used rocket from a guy who purchased it new from I think essence coffee in Meath. Very happy with it but don't use it as much as I used to. It is the apartmento model

010.ie seems to be their sales site

Just my thinking because if anything does go wrong with it at least if you buy Irish then there is somewhere to bring it for repairs and maintenance

Anyone care to post some links to good options in the €300 region that one of the initial posters reckoned would be as good for a domestic machine as spending 1k?

Interested in an automatic machine for flat white /Americano rather than espresso, usually. Ideally with a grinder. Not a sophisticated coffees drinker but enjoy nice coffee.

ok. price wise is not bad. there is a presentation clip on maxicoffee (for whoever speaks french, can be useful info there for the coffee machines they have in stock)

I know few ppl in my entourage who got delonghi's in the 300E range - think some sales are ongoing including on amazon. I don't know what type though.
