    So it will be my first car and im looking for something that costs less than 10k and is above a 2012/13.

    Ive had a look around online and there doesnt seem to be an issue with my requirements. Ive seen a few on carzone. But i havent bought there before so not sure if its more reliable than a dealer.

    Any advise would be very much appreciated. Is there anything you wish you knew when you where buying your first car? Advice on makes models or what to avoid.

    Also I am tempted to go finance through a garage but get a small loan from the credit union to pay the deposit. The loan would be paid off in a year when I would build enough savings with the CU to get a loan to pay off the finance outright. Good idea or bad?

    carzone is only a hosting website for selling cars, they don't actually sell cars themselves. Also you say it's your first car, how much driving experience do you have and do you have a learner permit or full license? Have you taken any examples from carzone and got insurance quotes for them? Insurance is expensive especially for new/first time drivers and in a lot of cases the car you buy is determined by how much you can afford to pay for insurance on it.

    So I have been driving about 4 years and have my full license about 6 months. I took a few examples of cars and got quotes on 123.ie. In fact I got a quote of 650 for the year for a 2015 mazda 2. I assume it is because it is a new car (as in newer rather than older than 10 years), i have 3 years ncb as a named driver (123.ie accept that) and I have my better half as a named driver (female with clean license for the last 8 years). Plus being both in our early 30's helps. So insurance doesnt seem to be too bad. I did get a few quotes of 1200 alright so I guess Ill be looking at the quotes while checking cars.

    I am looking at local dealerships also. Here are a few I was looking at where I can get cheapish insurance (all under 1100 3rd party obviously). What do you think? Its a lot of cash to be spending and I dont want to buy something I end up thinking is a bit meh.

    So my hopes are;
    something with a bit of power. I like a bit of acceleration for dealing with people driving way under the speed limit on those country roads.
    something with space. When me and the missus are heading off "we" take a lot of luggage, so space would be important.
    Long distance driving. I want something that could comfortably drive Cork to London without giving up half way.

    The Mazda2 I was looking at

    A couple of other options

    Two Insignia different models

    So any advice would be brilliant. Thanks
