Just watching the replay now; I don't think it was going in, actually. Looked like it might have hit the front of the post and rebounded out. I guess we'll never know now.

Yeah that could have happened too. Person in Leeds thread, and they aren't the only one say it between here and elsewhere, thought it hit his knee. Wouldn't be surprised if that's what the linesman thought from behind.

I'm biased anyway, Forest deserved nothing. Leeds did dominate bit no decent chances bar the controversial one.

As a whole, that league is nuts. So tight, any result is good!

That's a scandalous decision that went against Forest tonight. How did the linesman not see it; he was right in line and had an unobstructed view of it.

Unobstructed? Was the player's arm and leg not between him and the ball?

It was not like the Henry handball, where the ball was between the linesman and the player.

As much and all as Forest hardly deserved anything in a game where they started time wasting inside the first half, the goal should not have stood, but can see why the linesman might not be sure it hit the arm.

You said it yourself, he had a very good view of the player's arm. Even Roofe has admitted that it hit his arm.

And the player's leg. And his head. And arse.

But that's of little use when his view of the ball was obstructed.

No one is saying it didn't hit his arm. You said he had a clear view of the ball hitting his arm. But he didn't. He had a clear view of the arm.

It's sacking season and a shock death - that of Brentfords' whiz kid technical director Robert Rowan at just 28. Nothing about cause at this point but I suspect that's because it wasn't an accident judging by the reports.

Harry Kewell at Notts County gets the chop along with Neal Ardley and John Askey of AFC Wimbledon and Shrewsbury respectively, Phil Brown got the boot from Swindon and is replaced by Richard Wellings and his No 2 is Waterford FC man Noel Hunt.

Anyone watching the Villa/Brum game? Cracking entertainment, though some of the defending is woeful. 3-2 for Villa atm. Villa got very lucky with their third goal; Abraham got away with a clear push on his man, who then reached out and (barely) grabbed Abraham around the waist. A very soft penalty, which should have been negated by the award of a free kick to Brum.

One of the Derby player bite Joe Allen and only got a yellow card.

The ref was looking straight at him doing it as well.

Almost 40,000 tickets sold so far for Sunderland's Boxing Day clash against Bradford City. It's the League One record and the highest attendance in the division since the Sheffield derby in 1979.

Absolutely astonishing support given what the fans have put up with in recent years.

    https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/46621156
Sunderland's Stadium of Light ground will host the biggest third-tier crowd for 39 years for their Boxing Day game against Bradford City.

Sales have surpassed the League One record of 38,256 for Leeds United's game against Gillingham in May 2008.

The crowd will be the highest at this level since the 1979 Sheffield derby, which attracted 49,309 fans.

It will also be Sunderland's biggest since the club were relegated from the Premier League in 2016-17.

"What a phenomenal achievement by our supporters and what a statement to the football world that Sunderland is on its way back," executive director Charlie Methven said.

The Wearsiders will also officially rename the south stand the 'Roker End' at the game.

They are currently third in the table under manager Jack Ross and bidding to return to the Championship at the first attempt.

English football's third tier was rebranded as League One in 2004, having been Division Two from 1992, and Division Three before that.

I like Liam Rosenior as a pundit. He's like a fellow who knows the game and gives an honest opinion without trying to be smart or profound or controversial. Most of the Sky pundits are clowns, like Merson. And then you get the likes of Neville, who isn't the worst but just doesn't have a great delivery. Rosenior is engaging.

All falling into place for Leeds...(which I dont mind)

Derby shocking again today, no creativity at all.
If you take the loanees out we would be shocking.

How can Sky show a 3pm Championship game today with the blackout rule?

Or is it just being shown in Ireland?

Best of luck to him. I'd like to see Sheffield Wednesday back in the Premier League in a few years. Always had a soft spot for them, probably as when I think of them I think 90s football. David Hirst, Chris Waddle, Des Walker and so on.

With the squad he had and the money he spent, he should have been doing a lot better. Really thought his style of football would be a perfect fit for Stoke, but it has all gone wrong. It says something when Stoke fans say it is the worst football they have seen in years and the style of play is too negative. Now failed at two clubs with genuine promotion chances, so his reputation as one of the next great British managers is all but gone.

Please, please, please, please, please let Moysey get that Stoke job.

On a grimmer note Kit Carson who was due in court today on charges in connection to paedophilia as a youth coach has died in a car crash - single vehicle/tree/wrong location and wrong time for journey to court.

He was a coward til the end, the soccer forum charter prevents me from saying what I'd like to. Poor tree.

must have been pretty bad for that to be the case , they've witnessed much anti-football at Stoke.

Think this is a good job for someone , hopefully they see beyond the predictable Big Sam/Pardew appointment and give it to some progressive manager and provide them with some entertainment at the Britannia.

Nathan Jones is going to Stoke.

He's currently Luton's manager, got them promoted last season and are 2nd in League One at the moment, just about holding off the challenge of Sunderland who are 1 point behind in the chase for automatic promotion. Luton actually play Sunderland at the Stadium of Light this weekend.

Could be a big loss for Luton for the rest of the season and you wouldn't be surprised if they fell away a bit now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Would be a massive loss to Luton you'd imagine, they have been very impressive this season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,106 ✭✭✭✭Tom Mann Centuria

Going from a small, well run club going well in the lower division that he's been at for a few years to a fallen "big" club sounds a bit like Rowett's journey, and Paul Hurst's actually. Maybe things will work out better for Jones.

Karanka sacked for being 7th and not 6th. Seriously how to owners expect to succeed if binning managers who are doing well.

I’m saddened to see Ipswich at the bottom of the championship, I’m old enough to remember the great team of the early 80s under Sir Bobby Robson which ran Aston Villa close to the title playing lovely football. I remember them hammering my team, Manchester United 6-0, around 1980, could have been 9-0 only for Gary Bailey saving 3 penalties! They are a good club and I hope they come back soon!

Looks like O'Neill is getting the Forest job. Almost makes me wish Ireland hadn't sacked him. Terrible appointment imo if true. Legend or not.

    I'm not.

They had a perfectly solid championship manager, who kept them at a decent level despite little outlay in a division where clubs spend tens of millions to secure promotion. They got rid. They're paying the price.

I agree, and I know he wasn't popular with their fans, but some of them on twitters stubborn refusal to admit they'd rather of kept him than go down to League One is laughable.

Not a happy man today. Karanka had his faults but we scored goals under him. MON will suffocate the life out of this team, he is a draw specialist.

    Bielsa kicking ass.

Great press conference, I do however doubt that he watched 51 Derby games at 4 hours each, taking roughly 8 and half, 24 hour days to complete. I'd say something got lost in translation but level of analysis his team have produced is off the charts. :o

Paul Scholes set to sign an 18 month deal to take over the managers job at Oldham. Really hope he does, we need a bit of positive news, whether he's up to the job or not, we'll just have to see.

The owner is out of the country but expected back today so they might announce in the next 24hrs. Only stumbling block seems to be his involvement with Salford, will have to sell his shares by the looks of it.

The least nice man in football, or one of them, Steve Evans, has been smacked by Peterborough. His assistant has also been let go.

Meanwhile in League Two Northampton Town slip ever closer to the bottom of the league with another draw.

Transfer deadline day. Northampton signed an injured striker with a goal ratio of a goal every ten games. :pac: He'll save us, when he's finally fit.

    He looks delighted too.

Coventry, for a club who might be into their last eight home games and have three wins in 16 games, did a bit of business..

37 year old Irish player Michael Doyle is gone after 380 games in two stints, David Meyler is in - was he at Hull?

Might get a look at Graham Burke for Gillingham tomorrow.

Played well in an utterly dreadful side with the standard issue lump upfront in Tom Eaves. How he has 15 goals is beyond me. He'd be subbed at LOI level.
