Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Paddy Power - Won't let me set up new account

    Hello all,

Just wanted a bit of advice. I opened a Paddy Power account about 10 years ago. Since then I used it at most once a year for a week or so before giving up. I probably hadn't used it most recently since 2015 or 2016.

As a result, all the info was out of date. My username was one I hadn't used regularly in about 8 years (that I was using when I was 18/19), the email address was old, my actual address and bank card details are all out of date. The username specifically was one I can just never remember now

I contacted PP to tell them I wanted to close the account in order to open a new account. But they told me that is not possible. Even if I close an account, a new account cannot be set up. I asked them if I can change the info but they said the username cannot be changed unless I wanted to get in touch with the security team.

I didn't want anything this drastic, just to have a new account mainly with a new more recent username.

Basically I ended up just closing the account (regular closure). I was going to go ahead and just open a new account myself but don't want it to be a hassle down the line if I do end up making some bets and they suspend me for having multiple accounts.

Does anyone know if that would be the case? Is there a real risk or is it likely I can set up a new account (with all new details except my name) and move on as I had intended in the first part.

    Thanks for any help.

So they told you what you couldn't do/shouldn't do and you did it anyway.

You should have just used to forgotten username/password function. You might get away with a new account but it is strictly a one account per person for life arrangement and it is likely you'll have the new account closed.

Not the end of the world though, Paddy Power are one of the worst bookmakers going.

No, I haven't done it as in I haven't set up a new account. I just closed the other one. The forget username password function unfortunately won't change username. If there is a legit risk they will just ban my new account, I'll just leave it off. No account at all.

One account per person for life is a great idea until you're stuck with a stupid username from when you were technically a teenager, 11 years later :o

So you contacted customer support and created a thread here with quite a long OP but don't want to fire the security team an email cause its to drastic? Any other reason?

You can’t have two accounts. You generally cannot change username.

I would hazard a guess that many regular users on here have had multiple accounts with the same bookmakers, certainly know I have!!

It's definitely more difficult nowadays and I wouldn't be bothered trying in most cases.

For OP, best thing to do is to open a betfair account, sportsbook has the same odds as paddypower, and has the option of using the exchanges for backing an d laying, which is usually much better in terms of prices and cashouts when backing singles.

Another thread on here somewhere talks about how we may be able to delete data from old accounts under GDPR legislation and it'll be interesting to see if there's been any update on that.

I don't really understand why you wanted to change username. Anyway PP have changed their policy to only allow one account per customer.

If you can give them a different email and phone number you'll probably get away with it. If those details are the same they'll probably match you to your old account.

Edit - or take the advice above and set up a Betfair account, they're the same company as PP.
