Display Calibration

    Hi

I am considering getting an LG OLED 55"B7, and in the process of trying to research in general I have come across the apparent focus on the importance of calibration - reviews distinguishing the performance out of 'the box' vs. calibrated, posters adamant that you should really get a good screen calibrated if you want to get the best out of it, etc.

Digging a bit further, it seems that there are no (or at least very few, and not particularly prominent) professional calibrators in Ireland. There was even an old Boards thread discussing the benefits in a number of like-minded individuals chipping in to pay for a UK professional to come over and do a number of jobs.

This seems surprising - if it is truly the case that professional calibration can make so much of a difference, why is there no market for it here? Even as a niche specialisation?

Or have we now moved on and there are technicians about offering this service? Do people know if it truly does make a difference? Now that I know this exists, I find myself compelled to research it to the end!

    Thanks in advance.

still no vald resources in ireland, i had contacted one in the UK a few months back to discuss calibrating my 4k projector, he was meant to come back to me as he had a few in Ireland interested but never heard back from him.

why none here? very high cost of entry, and vast majority of Irish people are more impressed by a 65" lidl special than a well calibrated smaller screen. i.e. they haven't a clue.

Thanks for the reply, appreciate the input.

I was initially tempted to pretend that I empathised with your frustration at the lack of a Irish clue in that department, but then again, I did only discover this was a thing recently!

Well I remember having the HD basics calibration disc for calibrating 1080p displays.
Probably a 4K one out now.
Good for basic colour, contrast and sharpness and stuff.

Also go onto AVforums or it could be AVSforums the uk site and people will have settings up from calibrations there also.

Beware with professional calibrations, back in the day yes but now as all TV's are smart and much easier to update firmware a new firmware upgrade could either wipe your settings (just note them) or eliminate them with new features e.g. recent HDR upgrade features have dramatic effect on calibrated screens.
So I suppose I'm saying you could spend good money but have it literally wiped or become uncalibrated should the TV/Screen go through a firmware update
