    GONCALVEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

What a goal for Strasbourg! They lead 2-1.

    https://twitter.com/Alex_InDaHouse2/status/1114976678273482758

Half-Time: Strasbourg lead 2-1 at the break. PSG have been very complacent from the team selection to the performance. They should be at least level but for an incredible miss from Choupo-Moting. Strasbourg are getting joy on the counter. Still fancy PSG to get the job done. Mbappe is itching to get on and I expect he will be shortly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Mbappe and Draxler on for the final 30 minutes with Choupo-Moting and Kurzawa making way. Big test for Strasbourg now. Tuchel meanwhile's been sent to the stands for having a moan at the ref.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Feck, Kehrer equalises with a great header. 2-2 with ten minutes remaining. All originated from Mbappe's brilliant run.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Full-Time and it ends 2-2. Happy with that. It means PSG will have to wait until the game next Sunday with 2nd place Lille to seal the title. That should be a fun game.

The chances were there for Paris to win it. Dani Alves hit the crossbar and went close again in the final seconds. Mbappe was a big difference maker when he came on and not for the first time.

Strasbourg defended well and were worthy of a point. Good performances from da Costa, Sissoko, Prcic and Lala. Great goal from Goncalves.

Game will be remembered though for Choupo-Moting's incredible miss.

Beautiful goal. Ben Arfa's natural ability is so good.

Choupo-Moting has just had the worst miss in the history of association football.

What was he doing? He literally had to do nothing and it would of been a goal.

    Was it greed or instinct?

Seems like he was caught in two minds. In the interview afterwards he admitted he hesitated and said he was unsure if he was offside.

Nimes beat Rennes 3-1 tonight to move above them into 10th place. There were two fantastic strikes in the game from Denis Bouanga and Antonin Bobichon:

    https://twitter.com/shlaguet/status/1115727159602110470

Both captains were also given red cards in the game for separate incidents. Looks like if Rennes are to have European football again next season they'll need to beat PSG in the French Cup final later this month. No bother!

Teams for Nantes vs Lyon (7.45pm k.o., BT Sport Extra 2).
Nantes XI: Tatarusanu; Fabio, Basila, Diego Carlos, Traore; Rongier, Toure, Moutoussamy; Limbombe, Coulibaly, Waris.

Lyon XI: Lopes; Dubois, Tete, Denayer, Marcal; Ndombele, Tousart, Aouar; Cornet, Dembele, Terrier.

Fekir, Marcelo and Depay all dropped and French media reporting it's because of a fight involving them and Ferland Mendy in training yesterday.

Big game for under-pressure Genesio. Lyon need to keep picking up wins to secure that final Champions League spot. Hard to know what their mentality will be tonight. Nantes also need points to avoid getting sucked into the relegation scrap. I'll say Lyon to edge it.

Nantes take the lead through Koulibaly. Denayer could have done better dealing with the run. Lopes didn't make a great attempt at saving it either.

The other game tonight between Dijon and Amiens has ended goalless but the big story is monkey chants allegedly directed at Amiens captain Prince Gouano. All 22 players apparently threatened to walk off the pitch.

    https://twitter.com/IlltudDafydd/status/1116773223952048134

Balotelli suffered racist chants there when he was at Nice. Terrible that this stuff is happening in this day and age.

1-1 as Martin Terrier curls in a beautiful low strike. He's in very good form.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    LIMBOMBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

    What a free-kick!

    https://twitter.com/TazPhalora/status/1116803293450317824

Lyon facing defeat here which could have big implications for the Champions League places and Genesio's future.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Full-Time and Nantes win 2-1. Great result for the home side and surely eases any relegation concerns. Lyon meanwhile have given others a chance to close the gap for the final CL place. If their rivals Saint-Etienne beat Bordeaux at the weekend the gap is cut to just three points.

Losing Tousart to injury was a blow but Lyon weren't at it tonight. Usually reliable performers like Ndombele and Denayer were disappointing. With the news of fights at training it feels like Genesio's tenure is approaching the end. I'd still have them favourites to finish third but not by much. Great result this also for 2nd place Lille who now won't be under much pressure for their game with PSG.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Bruno Genesio announced in a press conference today that he's not going to be Lyon manager next season. He blamed the negativity on social media for his decision but says he might stay at the club in some other capacity.

Will be interesting to see who Aulas goes for to take charge. Lot of great young prospects at the club and they really ought to be much closer to PSG than they are.

    Saturday results:
    Marseille 2-1 Nimes
    Caen 0-1 Angers
    Monaco 0-0 Reims
    Strasbourg 3-3 Guingamp

Marseille took advantage of Lyon's loss to move 5 points behind them. Amazing they're still in with a shout of Champions League football after their mess of a season.

Caen are now bottom of the table after their loss. Former Arsenal talent Jeff-Reine Adelaide with the winner; he scored a brace last week against Rennes too.

Strasbourg and Guingamp sounds like a thriller which is funny because when they met in the Coupe de la Ligue final it was a dull game. The point sees Guingamp go 19th, a point behind Dijon in the relegation/promotion play-off spot.

Monaco still not out of the woods yet as their disappointing form continues. Hearing Reims keeper Edouard Mendy was very good. He's a goalkeeping talent to keep an eye on.

Televised games tomorrow are Reims vs Nice from 2pm, with Vieira's Nice still in with a shot of Europa League football; St Etienne vs Bordeaux from 4pm with the home side moving within 3 points of Lyon if they win; and the big evening game from 8pm of 2nd-place Lille vs 1st-place PSG as Galtier's side look to stop PSG clinching the title tomorrow on their turf. A strong performance from Nicolas Pepe might prompt Paris to make a summer bid for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    Sunday's early results:
    Montpellier 2-1 Toulouse
    Rennes 0-0 Nice
    Saint-Etienne 3-0 Bordeaux

Montpellier up to 6th on GD with their win while Nice are level with them on points after they were held. St Etienne did their job and now just 3 points off Lyon for the final CL spot.

Fun game coming up between 2nd-place Lille and PSG with the visitors clinching the title with a win or a draw. Teams:
Lille XI: Maignan; Celik, Jose Fonte, Soumaoro, Kone; Xeka, Thiago Mendes; Pepe, Ikone, Bamba; Remy.

PSG XI: Areola; Dagba, Thiago Silva, Kimpembe; Meunier, Paredes, Verratti, Bernat; Dani Alves, Mbappe, Draxler.

Rafael Leao is suspended for the hosts which is a shame. Still a good line-up as Pepe should be eager to show his quality against a strong side, while Ikone will be eager to get one over on his old team.

PSG's side looks as strong as possible given their injury list. Kehrer possibly could have started over Dagba.

It would be nice to see Lille spoil PSG's party but they don't have a great record against Paris. Suspect Tuchel's side will edge it but hopefully not.

Game is on BT Sport 1 from 8pm.

    Meunier O.G.! Love it!

    1-0 Lille.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

That didn't last long. 1-1. Juan Bernat equalises after a lovely ball from Mbappe. Zeki Celik caught napping.

Blow for PSG as Thiago Silva injured and coming off. Kehrer on to replace him.

And another blow for PSG as Meunier coming off with an injury as well. Diaby coming on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Straight red for Bernat for fouling Pepe as last man!

What a disaster this has been for PSG's defence. Captain and CB Silva off injured, RWB Meunier off injured, LWB Bernat sent off.

Half-Time: 1-1 after the first 45. PSG not happy that Thiago Mendes only got a yellow for swinging his hand out at Verratti. I thought the ref got it right though. Some strong tackles going in and you can tell there's a bit of needle between these sides. Very fun half with both sides looking to get forward. Lille will be disappointed they've not really tested Areola despite PSG's injury woes; Lille themselves have lost CB Soumaoro through injury. Get the sense there's more goals in this but not sure which way. Lille won't get a much better chance to put PSG away but the away side look dangerous whenever Mbappe is on the ball. Verratti doing well too.

    PEPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

2-1 Lille. Pepe races through on Ikone's lovely weighted pass, still has work to finish it, but never doubted he'd put it away past Areola. Big moment for him.

Should have been 2-1 to PSG minutes earlier as Kehrer missed a free header from a few yards out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    BAMBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

What a finish! 3-1 Lille. He'd gone very close to scoring shortly before that.

PSG having to put the champagne on ice tonight?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    GABRIEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLL

4-1 Lille! The young defender who came on for the injured Soumaoro has surely put the game to bed. He's defended well since he came on as well.

PSG are here for the taking if Lille are clinical enough. Pepe close again but Areola saves well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    JOSE FONTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Unbelievable! 5-1 to Lille. Bullet header from the former Southampton defender.

Apparently this is the first time PSG have conceded 5 goals since the year 2000!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Full-Time and Lille win 5-1. Amazing result. Paris thought they were coming here for a title-winning party and instead they're leaving after their biggest hiding in nearly twenty years.

It does need to be said PSG played most of the game with 10 men and they lost two of their defenders to early injuries, but it's still a remarkable result.

My two big takeaways from the game would be firstly PSG should go all out for Pepe who was excellent tonight. Would be a shame to let another quality Ligue 1 talent slip through their fingers like they did with Fabinho. Buy him and stick him up front with Neymar and Mbappe next season. Secondly, Christophe Galtier must be the Ligue 1 coach of the year. He's taken a team that was second from bottom under Bielsa, facing relegation, and turned them into a team second from the top, delivering a thrashing to the future champs. Top coach.

Nantes vs PSG coming up from 6pm on BT Sport ESPN. PSG can seal the title today with a win having failed to do so in the last two attempts.
Nantes XI: Dupe; Fabio, Diego Carlos, Pallois, Edgar Ie, Traore; Rongier, Toure, Moutoussamy; Coulibaly, Waris.

PSG XI: Buffon; Nsoki, Kimpembe, Kehrer, Kurzawa; Diaby, Paredes, Dani Alves, Draxler; Nkunku, Choupo-Moting.

Nantes coach Halilhodzic is said to be missing the game due to a family matter.

The PSG line-up looks really underwhelming. Mbappe left out which is rumoured to be due to Tuchel being unhappy at his comments on the team after their thrashing at the hands of Lille.

I'll go for a narrow PSG win but I wouldn't be shocked if Nantes can get something. It's not a team that Nantes should be afraid of anyway.

    1-0 PSG.

Superb long range effort from Dani Alves.

    https://twitter.com/Rebeuking/status/1118566070649085952

1-1. Lead didn't last long as Diego Carlos equalises from a corner. Nantes have done well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

2-1 Nantes! Majeed Waris turns in from close range after Coulibaly had nabbed Kehrer of the ball. Not been a good season for Kehrer it must be said.

Half-Time and Nantes worthy of the lead. Rongier and Coulibaly doing well. Will PSG have to postpone the party once again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    3-1 Nantes!

Diego Carlos with another goal from a corner. PSG's defending at set-pieces has been abysmal of late.

Oh my goodness, Coulibaly with a chance for 4-1 with Buffon way out of his goal but he gets too much on it and sends it over. PSG are a shambles atm.

First time PSG will have lost consecutive matches in Ligue 1 since November 2012..

First time they've conceded 3+ goals in consecutive Ligue 1 matches since March 2009.

3-2 and a lifeline for PSG. Substitute Guclu with a nice finish.

    Three minutes of stoppage time.

Full-Time: Nantes see it out to win 3-2. Deserved win for the home side. Would have been robbery if PSG left with something. I was impressed with the performance of Rongier who I can see attracting plenty of interest in the summer.

Interesting that PSG clinched the title last season by beating Monaco 7-1 at home. Their next opponents this Sunday...Monaco at home.

    Weekend results so far:
    Dijon 3-2 Rennes
    Lyon 2-1 Angers
    Guingamp 1-3 Marseille
    Nice 0-1 Caen
    Nimes 2-1 Bordeaux
    Strasbourg 1-3 Montpellier

Big wins for Dijon and Caen in the relegation battle. Caen had keeper Brice Samba to thank as he saved a pen. He's having a good season.

Guingamp now bottom after their defeat and Marseille move to within 5 points of Lyon for the last CL spot. I saw Lyon's win last night and they weren't very convincing. The goal they conceded was a comical O.G. from a Lopes mistake. Ndombele and Aouar played well but they're looking nervy atm.

Impressive win for Montpellier away at Strasbourg and they're still in the hunt for a European place, although the Champions League might be beyond them.

Teji Savanier continuing his strong campaign with a goal and assist for Nimes. Former Sunderland striker Josh Maja got his first goal for Bordeaux but unfortunately he went off injured before Half-Time.

Televised games on BT tomorrow are Toulouse vs Lille, with Lille getting close to confirming their Champions League place; Reims vs St Etienne, with both sides in contention for a place in Europe; and the evening game of PSG vs Monaco, as Tuchel's side look to finally wrap up the league title. Hope Jardim can pull off a surprise but I wouldn't bet on it.

    Sunday results:
    Nantes 3-2 Amiens
    Toulouse 0-0 Lille
    Reims 0-2 St Etienne

PSG are officially champions after Lille were held to a stalemate. Heard Toulouse's Ibrahima Sangare played well. He's surely in line for a move to a bigger club.

St Etienne kept alive their CL hopes with a win away to Reims. They're just 3 points off rivals Lyon for the last CL place. Big fan of keeper Edouard Mendy but he was at fault for Cabella's opener.

Nantes involved in another 3-2 having been 3-0 ahead going into the last thirty minutes.

    Teams for PSG vs Monaco:
PSG XI: Areola; Kehrer, Marquinhos, Kimpembe, Kurzawa; Dani Alves, Verratti, Paredes, Dagba; Mbappe, Diaby.

Monaco XI: Subasic; Henrichs, Glik, Badiashile, Jemerson, Ballo-Toure; Rony Lopes, Adrien Silva, Golovin, Gelson Martins; Falcao.

Neymar, Cavani and Di Maria are fit to make the bench.

Will PSG knowing they're champions help Monaco? Might they be in party mode? Hard to bet against the home side since they won this game 7-1 last season.

Game is on BT Sport 1 from 8pm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

1-0 PSG and a lovely goal from Mbappe. He makes a perfectly timed run through the heart of the defence and controls it superbly to fire it past Benaglio. Doesn't celebrate against his former side. He looks well up for this game.

Update: And Mbappe gets a second finishing Dani Alves' through ball. He's lethal.

Neymar on for the second half. Good to see him back.

Oh my goodness Mbappe just wrecked Glik with his pace. So close to the hat-trick but he hits the post.

Goal! Mbappe gets the hat-trick. Dani Alves puts it on a plate for him. Mbappe has been on another level. His 30th goal of the season.

3-1: Golovin gets a consolation for Monaco after Vinicius works hard to set up the chance.

Full-Time: It ends 3-1 to PSG with Mbappe bagging a hat-trick. He was almost unplayable today. Monaco still not out of the woods as far as avoiding relegation goes. They're 16th, 4 points ahead of 18th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

I see Neymar has been given a 3 game ban for his rant at the officials after PSG lost to United. I had a feeling they'd punish him but thought it might be a one match suspension at most.

Big game for Lyon this evening away to Bordeaux as they look to keep their 3 point lead over rivals St Etienne in the battle for the final Champions League spot. A loss would put their hopes in big jeopardy, and given they've still to play Lille and Marseille, even a draw would be a blow.
Bordeaux XI: Costil; Kounde, Pablo, Jovanovic; Sabaly, Basic, Otavio, Poundje; Kamano, Briand, De Preville.

Lyon XI: Lopes; Tete, Marcelo, Denayer, Dubois; Ndombele, Aouar; Cornet, Fekir, Terrier; Depay.

Game is on BT Sport 3 from 7:45pm.

Lyon haven't a good record in this fixture. They were beaten 3-1 last season and the last time they won was in the 15-16 season. I'm going to back them to win given what's at stake. Terrier's in good goalscoring form so he could have a big say on the night. Depay needs to lead by example as well. Kamano likely to be the big danger for the home side.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

1-0 Lyon as Depay turns in Cornet's cross.

1-1: Briand equalises with a nice volley against the run of play. Poor defending from Denayer.

2-1 Bordeaux! De Preville finishes Briand's ball. Lyon in big trouble all of a sudden.

Half-Time and Bordeaux lead at the break. Lyon had chances early on which they didn't take and they've been made to pay for their poor finishing. Huge 45 coming up for Genesio.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Metz have made an immediate return to Ligue 1 after winning promotion tonight. They finished bottom of the table last season. Good to see them back.

2-2 in Bordeaux as Fekir puts it on a plate for Cornet. Poor defending by Kounde. Game on.

Bordeaux's Jovanovic has been sent off for running his mouth too much. Great chance for Lyon to find a late winner in the last 15 minutes.

3-2 Lyon! Moussa Dembele quickest to react from Ndombele's scuffed shot. Could be a massive result for Lyon if they can see this out.

Full-Time and Lyon win 3-2. Entertaining game. Pressure now turns to Saint-Etienne to win against Toulouse on Sunday.

Coupe de France final is on just after 8pm tonight as Rennes face PSG at the Stade de France. Disappointed to learn no UK broadcaster appears to be showing it. Freesports are showing delayed coverage apparently.

Thiago Silva and Thilo Kehrer are set to be out for PSG but Neymar and Cavani expected to feature. Would be a great achievement by Julien Stephan if he can mastermind a win but I'd say it's highly unlikely.

Rennes vs PSG has ended 2-2 after 90 minutes and is going to Extra-Time. PSG had led 2-0 thanks to goals from Dani Alves and Neymar but a Kimpembe O.G. and a goal from defender Mexer have levelled it up.

Julien Stephan continuing to show he's one of the best young coaches in France. Hard to imagine Rennes will go on and win it, right...?

    Wow, amazing achievement by Rennes!

    8d196.jpg

Julien Stephan has done a fantastic job at that club since he took over in December. Knocking out Real Betis in the Europa League, pushing Arsenal very close in the same competition, knocking out Lyon in the semi-final of the Coupe de France, and now beating PSG in the final. Looks like he has a very bright future in the game. Thierry Henry wanted him as his assistant at Monaco before he became Rennes coach. How different things would have been had that move gone ahead.

Highlights of the game are on the French federation's Youtube channel. Looks like it was an exciting contest:

The PSG goals were quality it must be said. Particularly liked Dani Alves' volley from the corner.

Wonder what this means for Tuchel now. He was brought in to improve upon Emery's record but he's ended up with a worse one.

Youcef Atal, who has played most of this season for Nice at RWB, just scored a hat-trick today against Guingamp. Definite talent to keep an eye on.

That result is bad news for Guingamp who are bottom. Caen meanwhile who started the day in 19th have leapfrogged their opponents Dijon into 18th, which is the relegation/promotion play-off spot.

Lille have beaten Nimes 5-0 as well as they continue their fine season. Mourinho reportedly was at the game. Second time he's watched them this season. He seems to be friendly with Lille coach Christophe Galtier but I wonder is he also looking at a Ligue 1 move in the near future?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

St Etienne have beaten Toulouse 2-0 to stay within 3 points of Lyon in the final CL place. Marseille need to beat Nantes in the final game to keep their slim hopes alive.
Marseille XI: Mandanda; Sarr, Caleta-Car, Kamara, Sakai; Payet, Luiz Gustavo, Sanson, Ocampos; Germain, Balotelli.

Nantes XI: Dupe; Edgar Ie, Pallois, Diego Carlos, Traore; Toure, Girotto, Rongier; Waris, Coulibaly, Moutoussamy.

Game is on BT Sport 1 from 8pm.

Thauvin misses out with injury. Coulibaly and Waris are in good form so keen to see how they fare tonight. Rongier's been impressive when I've seen him too. Will go for the home side to edge it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Moutoussamy has put Nantes ahead after sloppy play from Sarr. Nice ball by Waris.

1-1. Lead didn't last long as Balotelli heads in Ocampos' great cross.

2-1 Nantes. Girotto's effort just crosses the line despite Mandanda's best efforts to keep it out. Marseille have to come from behind once more.

Full-Time and Nantes pull off the win. Surprisingly limp display from Marseille in what was a must-win game. Fans jeer the team at the end. Looks like that's their slim CL hopes over as they're 5 points off Lyon and St Etienne and they've a worse goal difference too. Nantes meanwhile officially safe. Thought Rongier, Coulibaly and Moutoussamy played well. Marseille badly missed Thauvin. Wonder is that the end of Rudi Garcia's reign now.

Had the match on last night but only one eye on it really while I was painting the house.

Incredible to have wins against Lyon, Paris and now Marseille within a couple of weeks, we were on a serious slope there.

I hadn't noticed the Balotelli-Carlos incident, this is filthy from Balotelli:

Yes that was a naughty one. Was surprised VAR didn't act on it. Strangely the BT commentators didn't see much wrong with it.

Montpellier vs PSG is on BT Sport Extra 2 from 6pm tomorrow. Interested to see if there is a reaction from PSG. Neymar had some strong words for his teammates after the cup loss. Last two games away at Montpellier were 0-0 and a 3-0 Montpellier win so it could be a tricky one, plus the home side need to win to keep alive their European hopes.
