Is my engine dying?

    Hi All,

I was driving on a motorway at 120 kph when suddenly my engine lost power and the maximum speed I could reach was 100 kph.

I drove at this speed for over 20 km before parking.

The engine now sounds different. I would use the word sluggish to describe it. (There was no banging sound)

I will admit the car is overdue a service.

Can anyone give me an idea of what they think this problem is likely to be before I decide what to do? Is it something that is economically repairable or is it likely the engine is dying?

2001 Opel Astra 1.7 DT GLX
(I believe her to be Turbo Diesel).

Thanks In Advance for all responses.

It could be anything from somthing small like a cracked hose, to something expensive.
Is there any new lights on the dash?

Either way, it makes sense to take it to a local professional before worrying too much.

Since you posted in DIY I assume you want to have a go yourself?
Open the bonnet and have a good look around. Is anything out of the ordinary?

There are no new lights on the dash and the temperature gauge was normal.
