What is the woman in black?

In the larger picture she seems to have a hood over her head, in the second its down, and she has tight black hair. That's what I see anyway.

She could be human. Or any human-looking species. We're looking for shapes in the clouds I think :D

I don't think we can say for sure from those pictures, there's no Andorians, Tellerites, Benzites, Boleans, or any other visually distinct race either.

Unless that's in the past and the Dominion has yet to come

Yes it could be maybe before the Dominion war.

    There's no starships either

Hopefully there will be some nice starships at some stage.

But there is a new Klingon. Good point about all the others do.

If you squint and zoom in and out a bit and tilt it a bit sideways. It's definitely a Disco Klingon or the Widow from the 90's Scottish Widow TV ads.

I see it now, it could also be a Reman.

There's a lot of science and ops uniforms in that picture.

I only noticed after someone else said it too.

I think if they did have Remans and Cardassians in the future Federation maybe even some Romulans's that would be a nice way to say things have moved on. It would not have to be a lot could be 1 or 2 or even 20.

    Live long and Prosper

That's a very strong contender. The collar shape (though not the colours), sharp shoulders, the way the colour band extends down onto the upper arms, even the slightly baggy jumpsuit look to the material. It does look like the rank insignia may be on the lower left edge of the colour band in the one uniform we can see most clearly.

The uniform could well have changed since Countdown though- Picard is about 10 years later?

You've raised an interesting thought though - Kurtzman's involvement in Countdown may mean they'll treat it as canon. I don't think non-live action Trek has ever been canon previously.

Not a big fan of the title. A little too on-the-nose.

"Hey. HEY! EVERYBODY!! Remember Picard?! You know, Patrick Stewart! TNG! Picard! Remember? He's in this show. The one you remember. With that famous actor. PICARD! It's Star Trek... but, like, the one you remember. With PICARD! It's Star Trek: PICARD. Patrick Stewart is in it, btw."

    PICARD

Haha, spot on. Cheapens it somehow too.

I wonder did Patrick Stewart only agree to do this with the caveat that Picard will regularly get to "see everything".

Unless that's in the past and the Dominion has yet to come

Based on the earlier photos I feel these scenes are probably post TNG / Dominion War. It's a bit fuzzy, but in the first crowd photo I think I can see the "Future-style" Starfleet com-badge on the uniforms there.

And Picard looks very old alright.

He has a round rank pip, cadets used to have square ones.

This might be just because he's an extra but the uniform looks a little sloppy.

Looks to me like he's an Ensign (full round pip) in a very crappy/ill fitting uniform it must be said. Not that the uniform design/styling would bother me at all, but the actual quality of the uniform would. This looks like something you'd order on Ebay for €30 and wear to a convention....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,741 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

    Doesnt fit well, I agree

They should just have gone full countdown uniforms if they were heading that way. It does look a bit cheap. But that only one shot of them.. Need to see more

Ensign Goldshirt: "May I have your name please sir?"

Picard: Raises his eyebrows in a manner that says "Do they teach these young cadets anything these days? They better not have dropped Latin as an elective."

If they’re going with the Countdown uniforms, it may be the other way around now.

A (possibly over-generous) interpretation for the ill-fitting uniform: it might be a deliberate decision to make the cadets and junior officers look like kids in too-large clothes. Picard’s suit looks well tailored.

And if they did that it would make him a first year which could explain him not knowing Picard.

More likely a last minute recasting and the costume didn't fit well at all.

More likely, yes. Though in the long shots, all the uniforms look kinda baggy. That maybe because they’re extras- hero uniforms may be better.

I'd welcome a delay for Picard tbh, it feels very fast since the announcement to the screen this year.

I would expect to see clips at Comic-Con.

As for the uniform, I hate to say it but the quality looks like a fan production. The design of very nice but it looks like someone stitched it together in 30 mins. In fact when I saw the screen grab, I thought someone might be taking the p!ss.

My hope is that is just a quick piece shot for the preview.

True- but they had a lot of change happening in the creative team from the start, it was the first Star Trek show on tv in over a decade and the production schedule was super aggressive. So far, Picard seems to be proceeding smoothly.

But the Picard series is first so STD 3 will have to adhere to it.

There was some 29th century stuff in Voyager and Daniels from Enterprise that probably also count.

I heard that plot line somewhere before... the cancelled animated series from some years back? Or STO maybe?

is this set before or after Romulus is destroyed? If after it sorta makes sense, the Rom are not going to become part of the Fed under any circumstance from their point of view so if Vulcan were serious about attempting re-unification they would have to leave to pursue it.

About 11 years after. It could work but doesn't really fit with the casting list released a few months ago.

TV can be a much faster beast to shoot than film, especially given there tends to be fewer sets, locations, smaller cast and production team, all shooting multiple episodes at a time. I can well believe the speed with which Picard is being made.
