Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The point was made that there may be instances of women concenting to sex even though it is "unwanted". Is that rape or is it not?.

If they consent its not unwanted.

The Bishop at no stage refers to "consensual but unwanted"..... He just said unwanted.

And a woman having sex where she doesn't want it is actual the definition of rape.

Perhaps the Bishop should have been clearer, but in my opinion the tone of the statement is quite clear.

This just come as across as argument for argument's sake, sydthebeat. If right-fighting is your thing, feel free to carry on. I'm not prepared to waste my time in that pursuit in a thread that's neither here nor there.

To go back to the piece of toast analogy, if the woman says yes, ie, consents, to sex, whether or not she is particularly bothered about it herself, why is that a bad thing? And whose business is it, other than her and her partner's?

Maybe I'm excessively conciliatory, but over the years in my own couple I think there have been a number of occasions where we've had sex because one of us wanted and the other agreed. Isn't it ok for sex to sometimes be something you do to be nice to the other person?

And if it isn't, if sex has to be fireworks and multiple orgasms to be acceptable to the bishop, then why is he only worrying abou women? Don't men ever have sex to please their partner?

This sort of gender stereotyping around sex is sad but probably unavoidable from a middle aged virgin. It's concerning that anyone else thinks the third hand beliefs of someone like that are worth anything more than pity though.

Reem Alsalem UNSR Violence Against Women and Girls: "Very concerned about statements by the IOC at Paris2024 (M)ultiple international treaties and national constitutions specifically refer to women & their fundamental rights, so the world (understands) what women -and men- are. (H)ow can one assess fairness and justice if we do not know who we are being fair and just to?"

    Fair enough.

I happen to think the underlining message in the article is extremely important, insidious and worrying.... Definitely not "neither here nor there"

The bishop expressly said "unwanted sex"..... No need for you to make anything implicit or making assumptions

So if you going to quote the Bishop, quote the relevant phrases correctly.... Because there's a world of difference between what you said and what the Bishop said.

It's fine. As I made my point above, there are evidently large gaps in the education system in this country. If your school teachers were not able to do their job, it is not my responsibility to do so here

Don't worry. I fixed it. I had deleted half my post so I wouldn't get into trouble and posted without reading over it
