A few years ago a guy came up with a wind powered clothes dryer - seemed a tad pointless.

I came across a gadget for chopping carrots a while ago. But it was too short to fit a whole carrot in, so you had to chop the carrot before using it.....

These points have reminded me of a thought that occurs quite regularly to me – that I think would NOT be a ridiculous, useless invention...

    CENTER INDICATORS!!!

When I'm at certain mini roundabouts – and certain crossroads, I always feel that center indicators would be seriously handy!! – Just to indicate to the person directly opposite to me at the crossroad or mini roundabout my intention, to drive straight ahead.

    Anybody? Just me?

there is in fact a hand signal for that. :
raise left arm to shoulder height
bend left arm so that forearm is pointing upwards
face open palm forward with fingers together.

It also works for calling the posse to a stop when injuns are sighted.

edit: of course, this was most likely intended for use by cyclists and motorcyclists. My father had a car in the fifties, and the indicators were stalks that popped out of the side of the car like little illuminated arms. If only there had been one on the roof :-)
