Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Jesus. Jose names two central strikers and STILL its too defensive.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 42,606 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lord TSC

But there are only 3 attackers. Including him. That is the problem. He was not talking about just wanting to attack himself, he was criticising the setup and attitude of the side in general. That as a side we don't press enough, don't attack quick enough, don't move enough.
Adding another defensive player just increases that problem.

Will see how it works. Fellaini could be used, as he usually is, as a more offensive midfielder, getting forward with attacks.

And if it is a diamond, it's an attempt at changing how we are playing. It could as easily be framed as playing more defensive midfielders to allow the three attackers more freedom to press up.

Very defensive line up, unless we see Shaw and young being played as very attacking wing backs to provide the width.

We've been so poor lately even when I've loved the look of some of our line ups that I'm slightly curious about how we will play today with that 11.

Something different coming up who knows.....?

Yes, I'm sure that's it. I may have a lot of posts giving Lukaku credit for being one of our few players to do well last season, but clearly I have just forgotten most of it. A ****ing case study in amnesia, thats me.

This thread is bizarre sometimes. The same guy who wet himself every time Rooney was criticised and who won't hear a bad word about Martial, he doesn't think Lukaku is doing enough. There is a laundry list of underperforming weenies at the club but the one that needs dropping is the guy who was one of the few to show a bit of fight last season.

You know what, same as with the manager situation, I hope these people get what they want. I hope Lukaku is dropped and lets see Martial up front for the rest of the season. Lets see Rashford start every game up there. It would end up with a title win, no problem at all.

You said Lukaku was "excellent" last season. Except that there's half a season worth of games where he wasn't anything even approaching that.

And your response is to piss and moan about Martial, Rashford, and Rooney as if any of them have anything even remotely to do with Romelu Lukaku's performances??

Yeah keep "wetting yourself" there, pal.

Are you criticising Jose for a defensive line up (4 defenders, 3 defensive midfielders) or posters for saying its defensive? Do you decide the side is attacking because there are two forwards named? Is that all is needed for a side to be deemed an attacking side? Especially when we generally see one of those 'forwards' being played as a left sided midfielder.

Such an uninspiring midfield - nothing creative about it, just bog standard players like Matic, Feillaini, McTominay.

Jose just gone to odds on in the sack race.

    embarrassing already

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,346 ✭✭✭Quandary

    Now that's terribly annoying.

We have a defensive line up and we concede inside 5 minutes.

Very poor marking in the box from us it has to be said.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,369 ✭✭✭Rossi IRL

McTominay kept him onside......was very close though.

We haven't even started here all West ham.

****ing hate the way we make these ordinary teams look amazing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,341 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

West ham get the ball and pop it about the place easily.

United get it and lump it forward.

This is absolutely pathetic and something, many things, need to change.

Jose plays an ultra defensive side and we still can't get a foot in.

There are just no excuses, there are no positives. There is no shape or plan. Nothing. We are a nothing side.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

Lineup is only defensive when you don't have the ball, and we can't get hold of the ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,225 ✭✭✭✭J. Marston

It is looking like his last season with Chelsea when they were tumbling down the table. Probably time to get rid.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,638 ✭✭✭✭bangkok

we dont even have the pace to counter attack

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,341 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Like what is the plan for when we get the ball? There are no forward options to work with. There is nothing to play off.

It's just pathetically stupid. A terrible line up with obvious problems, that we are immediately seeing unfold.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,136 ✭✭✭✭How Soon Is Now

Tempted to turn this off and play pro evo.

So ****ing bored with the ****e negative football this club plays.

That's why your not a striker Martial

We have 22% possession against West Ham

  • Embarrassing from martial even if offside

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,341 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

How does martial miss that? Ffs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,136 ✭✭✭✭Rayne Wooney

So Mourinho plays an ultra defensive side but we are losing?

Do people see the problem there

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 42,606 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lord TSC

It sums it up when Jose tries to create a packed midfield and people say a defensive line up, and we still concede so quickly.

Disaster from top to bottom, hut reality is we can't replace players or Woody. Players don't look motivated at all, and we really don't have much options...

Our first play was literally a lump forward. Don't know who it was, but I assume Lukaku and Martial kicked off, passed it straight back to the midfield or defence, and straight away they lumped it forward - a high, lofted ball without an ounce of pace or direction.

Start as you mean to continue.

  • Nobody closing in on rice, it's amazing how much space is afforded with so many midfielders on the pitch

Yeah, it's Pogba. Apparently. He should be doing everything and winning games no matter how the rest of the side is set up. If we are not winning it's totally him that's the problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,136 ✭✭✭✭How Soon Is Now

    **** off Martial.

I said it the other day that the only way to beat these is to score the early goal and get their fans to turn on them

    Instead we rolled over

We have looked a little better the last 5 mins so there is still hope

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,369 ✭✭✭Rossi IRL

    He was off

Yeah was a close one alright that would of been cleared up with VAR

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,136 ✭✭✭✭How Soon Is Now

    Yup goal was offside.

How did the linesman not see that was off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,341 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

    He was off

Very tight though. No issue, imo, that it wasn't called. It was poor defending.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,341 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Who was mctominay even aiming at? What was his idea there? WTF?

Lukuku and martial dont seem to be tasked with any defensive work looks very disjointed
