I need to buy more ram for my Windows 10 laptop.

Is there a way to find out the type of ram it takes without opening the laptop case?

    Thanks.

put the make and model into crucial or kingston's website and they will tell you the type and how much it can take

Wouldn't you need to open it to insert the new ram anyway?

Will it tell him if the ram can't be changed?

some recent machines have ram thats soldered in, not in sockets. google the specs for your machine.

Don't want to sound patronising but how do you know that you need more memory? How do you know your memory slots aren't already fully populated with the maximum capacity modules?

You need to find out how much RAM is already installed (control panel/system), then check the maximum capacity for your laptop. Get the make and exact model of your laptop and try the websites suggested in the first response above, or your manufacturer's website. They will suggest how much (if any) you can add and which type of DIMM you need to buy.

Getting to the maximum RAM capacity supported by your machine can sometimes involve discarding the memory that is already installed and replacing it with higher capacity DIMMS.
