    Hey folks,

Hope this is ok to post here; seems alright in the charter but mods feel free to move or delete if this is not allowed here.

I just wanted to bring to your attention an event we are running on August 25th in the South Court Hotel named Omnicon. Omnicon is a geek culture event focused on all aspects and sub cultures of the genre such as gaming of all types, film, tv, cosplay, anime, etc. The event ran for the first time last year in the Kilmurry Lodge Hotel to rave reviews.

This year we are running out of the whole ICC in the South Court Hotel and so expect a bigger and even better experience. As well as a reasonably sized trade hall with vendors selling merchandise and crafts from may popular franchises, we have many events and different groups on hand to entertain for the day.

For gaming we have you covered on many fronts. Our console gaming area has consoles both modern and retro, with both free play and tournament play taking place on the day. This is supplemented by Spraoi VR who will be bringing two professional VR rigs where they will be featuring both Lego Builder VR and Space Pirate Trainer VR throughout the day.

For board games we have an extensive library of board games for anyone to play, as well as demoes from various designers. Celtic Cardboard, a group of gamers who playtest new games going into Kickstarter, will be there displaying some of the games they have been playing, some of which won't even be out yet. Also Radar Games will be attending to show off their new card game Chomp, a game about dinosaurs and seeing who has the biggest bite. Also among our board game library will be our manga library with books free for people to read at the event if they want to give manga a try or just relax.

And if that isn't even to play with, the guys who run Brick Con Limerick (soon to be known as Lim Brick Con) will be there will a play area, some displays, and a minifigure shop. This one in particular can be perfect for the kids, but adults are welcome also of course.

There will be a lot going on in the world of costumes and cosplay at the event also. The yearly cosplay competition will be taking place as always, judged this year by Dark Knight Begins, Obsidian Dragon Creations and own our Team Emerald Cosplay. As well the 501st Legion, a Disney sanctioned Star Wars costume group, will be attending along with their sister group Heroes Unite Ireland; if you see Batman talking with a bunch of Storm Troopers then you know you are in the right place.

We will have demos and displays of special effects make-up shown off by Trickster FX whoa re from Limerick, as well as a panel later in the day by Hey Horrible about costume effects and make-up. Lastly in that area we also will have a few displays of some costumes made by our members, taken from popular franchises such as Lord of the Rings and DC Comics.

Our third and smallest room will showcase our panels for the day. As well as the SFX panel mentioned above, Obsidian Dragon Creations will be presenting a panel on making costumes called How to Make Your Dragon. For a different type of entertainment, a live session of What The Flip Media will be presented by the Gravel Pit, and Cork videographer Jack Buttrum will be presenting a talk on how to get into YouTube presenting. Last but not least, photographer Donald Manning will be presenting a panel on photography and subject shooting.

Other events include an Avengers Infinity Stone hunt, our ticket holders raffle, and a raffle to win a 2 foot tall Groot statue run by vendor Uncanny Collectibles. Finally, we also will have a few RPGs run throughout the day by Lydia Dutton and Paddy from CaptainTrixi Art.

Sorry for how long winded this is folks, but as you can see, it is hard to tell you all about the con in a single breath so to speak. Of course if this interests you then there are two ways you can get tickets for the event. Tickets will be available on the door in limited number for the price of €15 per person. Alternatively, a limited number of tickets are currently on sale online for the price of €12.50 per person, with free entry into our ticket holders raffle to win a goody bag. In either case, all children under the age of 13 go free so as long as they are accompanied by a paying adult. Online tickets can be bought from http://www.omniconireland.com/tickets.html

i've often thought this is a niche the city could build up a regular convention in - there is huge interest in all matters genre, and regular ( large multi day) conventions in the UK - add in film and or books ( in the form of publishers etc) and you have the makings of a large event.
