Is it just me or is there a ridiculous amount of shouting and roaring on sportives?

Hole, Left, Center.....Jesus Christ I swear people shout for a loose pebble these days. I think we all know and assume that Irish roads are bad, we don't need to know where ever loose stone is on the course

Abso-****ing-lutely. Its maddening, pointing out every ****ing pebble, it actually only makes it more dangerous with people taking their hand off the bars and eyes off the road to point out **** that is either of no relevance or others cant or shouldnt miss themselves. I hate it with a passion, its smacks of total pretentiousness.

... and why don't you just pass with a decent distance instead?.....
It's usually used when passing someone who is unaware of what's going on around them and swerving all over the place and where there isn't much room to pass at a greater distance. I agree though that it sometimes causes confusion.

Not in my experience! It meant: I'm squeezing past you with cm to spare because I can't be bothered waiting for a safe passing distance (which I guess is the second part of your description, now I think about it).

(I can see it has some use in other contexts, but it doesn't belong in a commuter context.)

Yea he forgot about the rear forks :D

I looked this up last time the discussion arose, and there is (albeit very limited) use of rear forks. Nothing amounting to require specifically calling out the front variant though.

For my term: calling "ramp". Especially when it goes across the whole road. Of all the pieces of road furniture they're pretty visible to a "ride-sized" group.

    1. 'Keep 'er lit!' What are you referring to?
    2. 'I majorly bonked' Well done, but...TMI
    3. "is it a DMS or a CP?" Huh?
    4. Cockpit. No, its not.
    5. Me 'I was racing yesterday'. Work mate: 'Oh, how long was it?"

Tragic that @CramCycle edited out my picture of Mme Le Pen to illustrate 'domestique' :D (Context: https://farrightfrance.wordpress.com/2015/03/18/just-so-you-know-pierrette-le-pens-playboy-moment/)

    As dermabrasion said above: 'cockpit'.
That has to be most ridiculous new piece of terminology in bikedom. I actually heard a guy saying this the other day.
Always thought it would be a great name for a gay bar, though.

    Or a chamois.

Maybe Rapha could use it for the name of their shorts.

"Put on your cockpits, sit in your cockpit and go for a ride".

How long has the cockpit term been around? It’s annoying alright. I saw the term being used by Canyon, are they the ones who introduced it?

    Maybe not the first one.

over use of 'for sure' by any pros being interviewed..possibly it's just a thing when English isn't your first language..

'for sure we will fight for the win'
'for sure he has good legs today'
'for sure it's a day for the sprinters'

Now stop passing me on my leeward side, you should know I’ve priority on starboard tack.

He could also be on a starboard tack to leeward, but if he was, I'd be mighty impressed if he undertook you while you were robbing all his wind

(Sorry, couldn't resist - now lets get back on tack, sorry track.. :) )

MOD VOICE: Would have been nice had it been a link and a NSFW warning, some work places might consider it inappropriate. In future if you have an issue with a mod action, please go to PM, not in thread.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,171 ✭✭✭Rechuchote

Ah I don't have an issue with mod action at all.
