Romahome insurance???

    Hi to all,

I am considering buying a 1991 Citroen C15 Romahome camper.

I heard rumours that insurance might be a problem.

I've been with Dolman Insurance (Brokers) for 16 years with various campers

in that time. I rang them today about insurance cover on the above

Romahome. There response was that they wanted pictures and the engine

size, which turns out to be 1124cc petrol. I sent them the pics and any

info I had, a short while later the response was that the insurance

company, quote "wouldn’t cover this type of vehicle as there is no clear

walkway from the front to the back of the campervan"

A little surprised considering the camper is factory built and not a conversion.

There's plenty of them in the UK and Northern Ireland, so insurance is not an

issue. Plenty of them in continental europe.

My question is, is there any insurance company in Ireland that would give me a quote

    on a Romahome.

    Thanks for looking.

    John.

    John.

Irish goatman used to have one I believe, https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/member.php?u=257812

I would try stuarts, if they won't cover you then join the Motorhome Club and get the insurance through them, don't imagine it will be an issue as its a factory camper.

xw7 engine is about 50hp properly tuned and thats at about 6000rpm, its not going to be a fun drive.

    Hi,

Thanks for your quick reply and suggestion.

I'll get onto that today and see what Stuarts say first. Then unsuccessful I'll send Irish goatman a pm and see what he says.

    Thanks a mill.

As for the 1.1 petrol engine. I was surprised by that, was expecting the 1.4 instead.

    Hi to all,

    The latest.

Just got off the phone from Stuarts Insurance Dublin. Gave the details of the 91 Citroen C15 Romahome, chatting to rep called

Colm, who was very helpful and answered all my queries on the spot. Stuarts will insure the camper for 335 euros fully comprehensive.

That is great news and he's sending me on the relative forms via my email.

Tha's it for now, more to follow.

Nice one, i think they are lovely. Citroen bolt patterns are common to a lot of engines theres probably a lot of engine you could bolt up to it to improve things i thinks theres a romahome forum you would ask on. There was a great citroen saxo forum with lots of engine conversions someone on there might know also.

You're thinking the same as myself. The 1.4 tu3 petrol engine would give it

more poke. The Romahome site is good, and was on it getting some info

about the C15 engines both petrol and diesels. A guy called John Moody

was very helpful. Its the way to go if possible. I'll post more later on.
