    That's shocking
It's because they are not registered for VAT in Ireland so you have to pay Irish VAT on top of the price that includes UK VAT.

It would be a good test for the new customs officers, I doubt if something the size of a PC would get through without being checked but who knows...

Scan are the same, they never registered for Irish VAT despite selling well above the €75,000 annual treshold

It's not a simple delay, Scan have suspended all deliveries outside the UK just over a week ago with no update on when it will resume.

And as my order has already been picked I don’t think it’s a simple cancellation. It’s as hard get through to them as it was finding a 3060ti!

Yes it was picked right before they decided to stop shipping outside the UK.

I actually ordered a 3060ti from OCUK just before Christmas and changed my mind. They were slow to answer my cancellation request but actually requested DPD return to sender while it was in the van about an hour from my house. It didn't take long for me to get a refund minus delivery fee.

It looks like scan have no idea when they will be resuming delivery to Ireland but there should be no problem canceling if you wish to do so.

I'd also be worried about it being held in customs for a long time while they decide if Irish VAT is due on it. I don't think it is since you ordered before the new year but I'm not sure on that.

MailboxDE and whoever the German supplier is.

6.1.2021 - Due to the current number of shipments, we have suspended the registration of new customers.

I wonder is it all the Irish people signing up post-Brexit? :pac:

I manged to order a card from Amazon.co.uk for far more than I wished to pay.(€915)
I got the message on telegram and just clicked and ordered without reading the price.
Decided not to cancel as the ethereum price is insane so I will just mine some of the money back while I sleep.

    Isn't it fabulous?
Good thing my case has no windows :D
Review on the card are positive low temps, low noise and high clocks(although high clock speed doesn't make much of a difference on the 3080)
The card is 1.5KG so even the weight in metal of the heatsink alone must have value.
It also comes with an anti-sag bracket.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,408 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

That seems to be the price for a 3080 these days. Seen them from 850-1200, and they all sell.

Alright if I PM you and ask how you're going to mine with it?

I'm already mining with a 1070 and making about €2 a day after electricity cost it should rise to €6 a day using both the 1070 and 3080 at the same time. These prices change all the time so there can be big fluctuations.
For the sake of PC gaming I hope there is a crash, even the GTX 1070 I have is selling second hand for insane prices.
I'll keep mining while there is money in it.

You need a GPU/s with more than 4GB VRAM.
You need MSI afterburner, you want a profile with an underclocked, undervolted GPU core and overclocked memory. With this setup the card mines at full speed while using as little electricity as possible.
I then have an overclocked profile that I switch to for gaming.

You need an etherium wallet, I use exodus wallet.
The miner I'm using right now is giminer and I connect to the ethermine.org pool.
The pool pays into my wallet once a week.

I only started recently so I'm far from an expert, there are some good guides on youtube but if you need any help feel free to PM me.

I remember when I started mining, this bitcoin malarkey will never take off. Formatted the hard drive not caring about the 2+ coins I had mined...

Was bitcoin the currency you were mining?
It's impossible to mine on a GPU now, you need a specialised asic miner.

Etherium is the second most popular coin and is asic resistant so GPU is the only way to mine it AFAIK

Chances are if you had kept those 2 coins, you probably would have sold them when they reached $100 a coin or something like that.

Do you still have the drive? Data recovery can be possible even after a format.

I don't know how wallets worked back then. These days you save a 12 word passphrase and can recover your wallet with that.

All long gone. I think back in the day it was just stored locally.

In the early bitcoin days I remember they were giving them out like candy.

You could get 1-3 bitcoins just for filling in surveys and other random crap.

I'd say there's a lot of people kicking themselves over lost bitcoins.

You will be absolutely amazed at that card...seriously.

Obviously looks are subjective, but when you have that card in your hands it looks and feels so good. The build quality is 2nd to none with an aluminium shroud and re enforced back place, you will see the cooling behind the fans 2 seperate heatsinks for front and back.

It runs so cool and performs like a steam train, its arguably the best cooler and one of the best performers out there. HWUB gave the card stellar reviews so did a few others.

The Thundermaster software is very good too allowing you to run the 3 fans independently (front and back together and middle separate)

Yes, if you have it flashing like a unicorns balls it looks terrible but a static colour or in a good build its lovely.

I have the 3090 version BTW.

Mined a couple of hundred back when it was transitioning from cpu to gpu. I remember it clearly as it was in around the same time as the recession. I had a load of core2duo desktops left over from all the staff that got canned with years left on the lease, so had a **** load of them in a basement in work mining for a couple of weeks. Truth be told I was just bored and looking for stuff to do. Keeping a eye on them kept me amused for a while. I saw a pizza sell for some stupid amount of coins(compared to what I had mined) and just powered them off. Never kept any of the details, was all worthless to me at the time.

It just remains on the blockchain in that wallet address and no one can ever tell if it's someone saving expecting it to be worth even more or if the user has lost access to that wallet.

Just a heads up, DPD have temperately suspend deliveries from the UK to EU countries because so many parcels are being rejected due to incorrect customs forms and other errors.

Currently there are only two real option when ordering PC parts from the UK. Amazon and OCUK
OCUK use DPD for delivery to Ireland so expect a very long delay if you order with them.
Amazon are having issues with their supply chain but orders are tricking in slowly.
