I was thinking about playing this recently but I'm glad I waited.

THE METRO EXODUS PC ENHANCED EDITION ANNOUNCED

Today we’re ready to confirm another exciting project set to release this year – the Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition! Built for high-end PC hardware with Ray Tracing capable Nvidia and AMD GPUs and implementing DLSS 2.0 for the ultimate PC experience.

    ..

This upgrade is so extensive, it will require a Ray Tracing capable GPU as the minimum spec, and we will need to deliver this version as a separate product – it is not a simple ‘patch’ to the base game – instead it will be offered as an extra entitlement to all existing Metro Exodus PC players.

Wasn't this one of the launch ray tracing games or am I misremembering...? I think I had it on Gamepass but didn't play much of it.

I think they only used global illumination so they may be adding more ray tracing effects

Yeah, because there was plenty of stock before the Chinese New year :)

If you have stock alerts on your phone and constantly check it you will eventually get a card.
It's painful and annoying but during the Chinese new year the chance is much lower.

Anyone remembers those days when you were able to just pick a brand and model and have it?

Not really, seems like its one crypto boom after another. With some pandemics thrown into the mix.

Last time I remember being able to do that was when I bought a GTX 970

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,931 ✭✭✭Cordell

Maybe I was just lucky then. I got a 2060 in February 2019 and a 2070S one year later with no hassle.

Yea but the pandemic made an added balls of things! I'd hoped to sell off my original 2080 and upgrade, but glad I held off now! Hopefully things normalize at some stage. Great to see more people genuinely building pcs, just a shame they're being stung by scalpers, miners and crippling lack of supply! A vicious combo.

Spotted this today... 3070ti on the horizon, 16GB for some more RAM confusion!

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,931 ✭✭✭Cordell

I think AMD made them do it :)
It is a tough choice between 3080 and a ti 3070 with 16G.

I had to wait 4 weeks for a 2070 Super FE & I thought that was long... :pac:

So looks like with 3060 retailers put on scalpers hats themselves. 329eu RRP and they selling it at 500-600eu lol.

It's kind of maddening to see cards like 2060 now sell for 400-500eu and 3060 with way lower RRP, will be stupid price right from a get go. What will scalpers do lol? Will it bump price of all other gpus too?

I remember I built my 2500k gtx570 based pc years ago for 1300eu and it was with current gen gpu, cpu, ssd etc.
You want now pc with current tech, you looking 2.2k lol

This site might be your best bet.

    https://www.gputracker.eu/en

"funny" thing - I checked on that, it pointed out the EVGA site has the best price on 3090s; Went there, they have a "notification queue" system. I entered...only to be told I had entered the queue already, on December 30th.

I had no recollection of it, so I checked my mails - yep, I did. But I received no notification whatsoever since then, wow. And it's for a supposedly "easier to find" 3090 :D

Yeah prices have gone up massively, although it is true one doesn't really need top-of-the-line hardware to enjoy most games - LTT just did a "very average gaming PC" video, where they put together a system with the most widely used parts from Steam stats, and it's surprisingly competent.

Yet, between insane prices, scalpers and miners, it's like there's kind of a concerted effort to kill off PC gaming once and for all - right when it was taking off again. Only - you can't get a console either right now (and I expect somebody to find a way to put the new gen to use in mining, I'm surprised it didn't happen yet!)

I am playing around with pcspecialist.ie configurator to see what is possible and it is very shocking how reasonable pc can cost, until you add gpu... they still able to put 2060 in there, but its like 500eu ish. And buying something like that for so much just puts a very bad taste in your mouth. They have issues with 30 series cards too, but they have 6800xt for 900eu+.
I am lucky enough to get xbox series X last year, thanks to fellow boardsie and argos code. Its scary how there is still massive shortage.

Yeah its mad. I got my MSI Ventus 2x 3070 for £550, so close to €600 including delivery back in November. I wasnt exactly happy with that model I got, initially my plan is 3070FE which is close to €500. But I was tired with waiting for FE drop so I grabbed this instead. Boy am I glad I made that decision.

A 2060 costing as much or close to the RRP of a 3070. That is nuts. I was planning to do a much needed upgrade/build end of last year but stock of everything dried up. Now I can get the CPU (Ryzen 3600) but I won't be buying a GPU at current prices and I don't see the point in upgrading my CPU/MB/RAM or building a whole new PC just to stick my current GPU in it. Seems like a waste. So, I'll hold out a while longer. What are the chances I'll be making this same post this time next year. :D

My best GPU decision of 2021 is keeping the 1080ti I bought in 2017.

I assume the use of the "PcMasterRace" for a picture of an army of all-white GPUs is accidental...?

    Yes?
Why do people keep assuming it's a racist thing?

Guess they don't know the origins, Yahtzee in a Zero Punctuation video years back but still, definitely don't see anything sinister in the tweet despite the pro-mining angle.

    Seems they've deleted it now.

The powerful white GPU revered by so many and so highly sought after being meekly powered by the subservient black power cables. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING

I'm not offended, I was just surprised that a company with a presumably professionally managed Twitter feed wouldn't notice the unfortunate juxtaposition before posting it

    Presumably they have now :pac:

    Me and you both :D

Unless you're mining do you even need more than a 1080ti?
Even on a 3080 I turn ray tracing off, it's still a complete waste of resources that adds very little to the visuals.
Not many have made the jump to 4k monitor yet.

The Verge had a screenshot last week of a 3rd party Newegg seller with a 1050ti for $800. Pretty much sums it up really.

  • Registered Users Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

Some places already selling 3060 and prices are 750-800$ lol.

I think I will be putting new pc idea on a very, very long finger now.

Ridiculous state of affairs isn't it...

Long gone are the days where you'd pay 3-400 for a top of the range card and people would think you were insane.
