I found myself actually looking at Alienware's a minute ago. I was legit considering paying €3k+ for something that looks like a f***ing Dyson fan.

    This is my life now.

PC Specialist have decent prices (for a an SI) if you spec a 5600x and a 6700xt. Only a few hundred yoyo premium, and it comes prebuilt, with a warranty, so that's not a bad deal really.

Like a system with a 5600x, 6700xt, ROG Strix b550 gaming f motherboard, 16gb of 3600mhz vengeance ram, a 512gb nvme drive, a Corsair 750w semi modular 80+ gold rated PSU, in a Lian li Lancool 215 case, built and delivered, for 1529.

In this market, that's not ****.

    They've got nothing on custompc.ie. How does €3,382 sound for a 3080? https://www.custompc.ie/the-parts-store/video/graphics-cards.html_ireland_custom_gaming_pcs/evga-10g-p5-3897-kr-graphics-card-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080-10-gb-gddr6x-10g-p5-3897-kr.html_custom_gaming_pcs_ireland

What an awful time for me to need a GPU.

I was looking around and it seems the best value right now is to actually buy an XPS tower from Dell (i9-11900K, 16GB RAM & 3060ti) for €1419 rather than just buying a GPU on it's own. 3060ti prices are pretty much at or just below that on Ebay now anyway.
At this rate we are so much in opposite land that you could probably make a decent profit just buying prebuilts from Dell and others, then selling the parts individually on adverts.

Considering pre-ordering a 3060 TI from Viking Direct. Would this be applicable for UK import fees ?

They have gigabyte / Zotac cards but no information on where they're shipped from

You may well get hit with Duty and Import VAT by UPS or whoever is handling the shipment, it depends where the item is actually being shipped from physically, but probably not a risk worth taking!
If you buy goods from the UK (excluding Northern Ireland) from 1 January you may incur charges that are outlined in this page. If your goods have: a customs value (including cost, transport, insurance and handling charges) of €22 or less you will not have to pay Customs Duty or VAT

Thanks I've sent an email to Viking asking for clarification on where the gigabyte 3060 TI cards are being shipped from. If it's EU, I'll preorder

If its UK, then I'll leave it :)

Viking Direct are registered for Vat in Ireland and PC components have a 0% import charge rate.

My orders with Viking Direct got cancelled this morning, they were placed Saturday 10am.

Being registered for VAT in Ireland no longer matters if the goods ship from the mainland UK, you might be hit with 0 Duty but you will be hit with full VAT @21%

Anyone order anything from Viking since Jan successfully?.
I ordered something and gave up after 6 weeks and cancelled. Refund took another week or so after that. Probably due to Brexit.
But I then ordered the same thing from amazon and had it 3~4 days later.

Maybe its all sorted now. Someone who has better results since Jan could verify.

Why don't Amazon double charge vat then when they're shipping items into Ireland?

Viking will sell under their Irish Vat number and charge Irish Vat only.

Were your refunds for less than €1? If so it was probably due to the way Amazon rounded the orginal transaction.

    Yeah tiny amounts.

Yea it's to do with they rounded the net amount of the item after deducting UK Vat. It meant you were overcharged Irish Vat.

I'm trying to decide what to spend my 13c on

3060ti, and 3080. Obviously everyone's order is being cancelled when no such stock exists, I saw a screenshot of one guy placing 250k worth of orders, the stock on Saturday was unlimited.

Just curious, have you seen orders canceled where it was a single card ordered? Wondering if maybe there's a limit and they never said.

Did order a 3060Ti myself so will post back if it gets canceled.

  • Registered Users Posts: 878 ✭✭✭Luck100

I ordered a single 3080 from Viking (on back order). I think it's been canceled (the order amount, VAT etc show as 0 on my account now). I haven't actually got a message from them saying it's canceled.

The mid tier stuff is pretty close to MSRP.

You are looking at the ex-VAT prices, not inclusive-VAT.

    RTX 3060 for 500+
    3060 Ti for 600+
    3070 for 800+
    3080 for 1050+
    3090 for 2127+

That's a 40-50% MINIMUM upcharge for the cheapest models in each class.

Yes I had another account with just one order, they're all being cancelled, I'd forget about it. It went viral Saturday on the UK site so you haven't a hope.

I'm not sure this is true.

I have purchased from Viking Ireland since 1 Jan. They charged Irish 23% VAT, on an Irish VAT number and there were no customs levies, order was over €200.
My 3060ti order is "confirmed" and has a value. My 3070 order is blank except for the order number and has no value.

I have also purchased from buy-spares.ie and was charged Irish 23%, no levies.

I purchased from currys.ie again order came with Irish VAT charged and no levies.

Coffee Table from Marks and Spencers again came with no levies, wasn't business related so didn't get a VAT invoice.

Perhaps I was lucky 4 times.

Just going to put this out there, I still believe the MSRP's are not realistic right now and the Vendor direct cards are being sold at cost or below.

yup. and then if the company really double taxed you, you can tell them and ask for the refund. I did that twice back in Jan/Feb when some company didnt sort out this custom tax thingy.

Seems the RTX 3080 FE VRAM temperatures can be dramatically improved with ~20quid worth of good thermal pads.

Yup. Seen a good few people doing it. It's almost mandatory I would say. Seen guys showing 3090 memory temps of 100c+ at idle!! Crazy. Apparently it's that specific type of memory is just hungry.

  • Registered Users Posts: 462 ✭✭tazzzZ

I've a 3090FE and can confirm I have the RAM junction temp issue. Idle temps are fine but gaming temps sky rocket. 100+ in literally everything. I never get as high as 110 for throttling but its far too high for my liking. I dont mine at all so thats not an issue for me.

I have new thermal pads arriving today to get this replacement done.... not going to lie I am ****ting myself! I've replaced coolers on cards before but 3090 cost is just a different level of risk. At the same time the benefits are so high... and I imagine that constant use at these high temps could result in long term degradation.

Anyone here own a Dell 30 series card?? I wonder how their cooling is?

Think I'm actually gonna place an order with Dell today. New XPS with 3060ti for home upgrade. And then an Alienware so I can take the 3090 out and let it mine away at work until I make a proper new build this time next year. And sell the rest of the system on Ebay to make a few quid back.

I think I saw a 20% off code for Dell on HUKD the other day so might be worth having a look in case they work on on either of your purchases.

Maybe give the card to a tech expert repairer? They do computers for a living. I'd be like you. I've taken a computer apart, put it back together, built my own PC. But the idea of opening up a 1500 GPU to slap on thermals would also terrify me.

For the high temps when mining I just reduced the clock speed and increased fan to 80. Now temp is stable at 91C
