    No, it doesn't.

Also bear in mind that this app is available from Google Play. It's not like you're having to go off to some shady site to install.

Google Play never hosts apps with malicious content?

Anyway, many people have flashed open source firmware on theirs, if you're sure there's no possible vulnerabilities to your network in using the app to control your plugs via China, that's fair enough.

Of course they have. If you think it's malicious, report it to them. I'm all for personal safety, I just think there's a lot of scaremongering that goes on.

I have an app published on Google Play, and it's permissions list is very similar to eWeLink, even though it does very little.

Are you selecting login rather than register?

Not sure I'll do that. Just interested in why the antivirus flags the app as malware, I haven't seen this before.

Antivirus on a phone is about as pointless as an ashtray on a motorbike anyway. Even if you're not going to use ewelink, you may as well get rid.

Is the one mentioned by OP the same as this one:

I use an Echo Dot to control the plugs, so I can just install the ewelink app, set up the plugs and then uninstall the app if I want.

Doubt this is something that interests you (given your privacy concerns) but might be an approach others might like to take

What is the difference between the S26 and the S20 as it seems like pot-luck which gets delivered.

Just a quick question, if you set these up and the internet connection goes down (as it does here daily), does that effect operation of the unit through the app?

In other words does it need to be constantly internet connected to operate?

Out of the box these need to be connected to SONOFF Servers via WeLink app to operate, so yes if your Internet goes down you lose functionality.

But you can flash them with other software (e.g TOSMOTO) which removes the need to connect to external servers and just use them under your own WLAN at home, and then maybe use a U.I like Home Assistant running on a Rpi to configure your whole setup at home - again lots of videos available to see how it works.

Yes, it doesn't care if under LAN or WAN it operates and feels the same.

We bought this last month... great bit of kit. well worth the price.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Premium-Comfort-Double-Electric-Blanket/dp/B01HBO9KG2/ref=sr_1_5_s_it?s=drugstore&ie=UTF8&qid=1538410798&sr=1-5&keywords=electric+blanket

On another note, the OPs opening post shows the plug at £12 now with code not working, any update on where to get these at a decent price currently?

Have a closer look. The plug isn't 1.99, only the adapter is. The plug is £10.99

2 arrived this morning and another 2 on the way :)

opened one up as planning to re-flash with Tasmota but heck those pin out points are really small on the S26 model compared with the S20

..gonna need to sit a refresher course on soldering as its been a while :o

pity there is no OTA flashing of these devices.

You have an option to name each when you pair them up, example: Phone charger, Bedroom 1, Outdoor lights.

A rule of thumb with these gadgets is best keep them on light loads

My 2 cents as an electrician anyway

What about an electric fire? Its mostly just used for the light

    No
There's the safety aspect of remote control with a fire
Even the likes of washing machines coming on at night for nightsaver when users are asleep isn't to be recommended

    To get this price:

    1. I've entered the code

    3. Clicked checkout (not Paypal yet)
    4. Used 77 points to bring down by 1.5Euro.

Bought two of these originally, decided to get three more and give a couple to the family. Three of them for €16 using the points from the last order, works out a great bargain.

Thanks, I ordered 3 of these on the original and wanted more, great deal.

Less than €20 when I used my points for another 3.:D

I now have 3 of them

Can they be set up on my wife's phone also. Do they manually have to be set up and named again?

Will It unpair them from My phone or app?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,365 ✭✭✭✭McMurphy

Have 2, want more but I really really can't think of what I'd do with more.

They're both attached to the lamps in my living room, really can't think of any other use for them.

Install the app on your wife's phone. She set up her own account with eWeLink and you can share the connections from your app account to hers. Each connected device has to be shared individually, but there's no additional set up on your wife's phone. All settings, including names transfer.

    Very simple process.

With the latest Google Home app update this is now working fine - no need to own a Google Home device.

    Set up device ->
Works with Google - Have something already ->
    Smart We Link

and then log in via your eWeLink login
