Anyone know how they decide whether to take a candidate from the open or the interdept panel when filling a vacancy?

Any educated guesses on how many vacancies might come up in the first half of 2019?

    Thanks

It's supposed to be one open, one interdepartmental, one internal, and done in that sequence, as far as I can recall, but many departments may owe "debts" to one or other of the panels.

It depends on the department. In finance, for AP it's 3 Interdepartmental, 2 internal and no open...

Like others have said, there may be a large number of debts to the interdepartmental panel (I know finance has a few) so it may be the case that they run through the InterD before the open at first, then when the debts are filled, they start taking from both at the same time.

Finance only hire AP1 so they won’t be pulling from this panel.

    Do Dper only hire AP1?

    No

they do hire some APs but limited

    also

the OGP and OGCIO are part of DPER and they would generally be at AP rather than AP1

OGP is a Vote in its own right and does its own recruitment through PAS.
OGCIO is a section in DPER but they mostly recruit through specialist panels

Will the shortlisting based on score of 114 still apply?

Does anyone know what way it goes if you had Dublin and a regional location down as second choice? If you get through interview and onto Dublin panel, will you have to wait until regionals before you would get slotted into regional panel? Or could you be offered a regional post before regionals take place? New to this!

It said this in the message:
"As this round of interviews was only for the Dublin, Kildare and Meath regions, you will recieve your order of merit for any other chosen location (if any), should we reach your place for that region."

So from that I'm guessing that you will be offered a Dublin place before being offered a regional place, since they may be placing this round of Dublin people before even making a regional panel...

Not sure how it works if you refuse a Dublin place because you want a regional, but maybe someone else here has done that before?

Your scoring from the Dublin competition holds and if/when they put a regional panel together, you are automatically placed on it (there is no need to do another interview). Note- some people who didnt put Dublin down, will obviously be brought through the final stages- and when ascribed a score- could very well be considerably higher than many of the Dublin panel. In a recent competition, the highest scoring candidate nationally, turned down a Dublin offer in favour of waiting for a regional post. Over 200 Dublin posts were accepted before there was a single regional offer made, and nearly 350 before there was a panel for her chosen county. Its a roll of the dice turning down a Dublin offer.........

    Happy New Year to everyone!

Good luck to all in the next set of interviews.

For those who finished with a high placement, please let us know when you get news the paperwork for appointment has started. Maybe the first few already started?

Does anyone know when the last AP panels closed and if there might be a bit of demand for Public Appointments to catch up on for the early stages of the panel?

The last panel was due to close on 31 Oct 18 however it was extended to 31 Dec 18 as far as I am aware

    Hello all,
I'm asking for a friend who did the interviews before xmas and has been placed fairly high on the external panel. Most recently she has been doing consultancy style work and found that it allowed some flexibility which helped with raising a young family.

Does anyone know if there is any flexibility at AP level, either part-time, job share or term-time?
If so is this available from the beginning?
Should she tell PAS this before she is made an offer (ie. in case there are some job share opportunities that might suit her) or wait until she has been received an offer and try to negotiate from there?

For those who are curious, my formal review (still no, of course) came in and provided the info that 765 candidates were brought through to shortlisting, and 349 were passed on to assessment stage: ie, more than half of the people who succeeded at Stage 1 were cut out at shortlisting.

Job share and part-time are the same thing really

both job share and term time are available (subject to approval).

However, I would imagine you'd have to start fulltime, perhaps until probation completed

significant numbers. At this point the whole approach to open competitions needs a review

more clarity on what criteria is required to be met is needed for applicants

Yup. Also it seems the vast majority of AOs were cut on those grounds, which is a whole other issue cause this is our only promotion path and we don't generally manage staff.

Anyone hear anything about vacancies outside of Dublin

Departments would be having their resource meetings this week if they haven't already had them. They would send their needs to PAS and then PAS send people where they're needed.

We might see some placements this week, and then i would expect the pace to pick up in the following weeks.

Large numbers of movements from pre-existing officers in the last 5-6 weeks- probably as a clean-up exercise for the New Year. There are definitely regional vacancies to be filled- how many- and where- god only knows.

Any idea when the next batch may be called for testing plus how many will be in it?

Will the next batch brought forward be people who didn’t get 114 in the initial online tests, but reached the pass mark? Has everyone who reached 114 or above, and got through the shortlisting process, done the etray and been interviewed by now?

This won’t happen until nearly all the first batch are placed.

    I think there's a

Batch 1.2 Dublin - Interview Dubliner's with above 114 who passed in person testing but havent been interviewed

Judging by the numbers (349 shortlisted), that will probably mop up any remaining Batch 1 candidates for Dublin.

When that's done and they're close to the end of the Dublin panel they'll call batch 2 for testing.

It depends on the number of vacancies and how many make the final total, so how long is a piece of string!

    There's also:
Batch 1.1 Regional - testing in Dublin for regional candidates
Batch 1.1 Regional - interviews for those passing the tests in Batch 1.1 regional

Thanks, I wasn’t sure if there were any candidates left from the first batch who had passed the supervised tests and etray, but who hadn’t been interviewed yet.

I was told by PAS before Christmas that the second set of supervised tests and eTray exercises would likely be taking place in late January.

DPER only hire AP1. As do Taoiseachs and Finance.

OGP and OGCIO do their own thing in relation to recruitment.
