Re the American fires smoke, this tweet from 3 days ago already showed the smoke in mid Atlantic and stretching to Ireland.

Fair bit of wind here in W Cork, not a gale but not too far off it.
Inland and partially sheltered by a mountain range so further W could be a lot more wind.

E Cork. Walked home from pub in short sleeves, lovely strong warm light gusts.

22.8mm of rain in the last 6 hours in Castlebar, still not even a slight breeze, humidity is up at 94%.

10 minutes of moderate rain in Dublin 7 earlier and that's that by the look of the radar. It's remarkable how many times in the last few weeks forecasted precipitation has just passed overhead without falling here.

    Are they strong or light?

Some strong wind now on the west cork coast. Rolling over the roof and the gusts are pretty strong also. Opened the Velux window for a look and it went flying upwards. Pretty stormy out there. Heavy mist still too. Granted I am directly across from the ocean with only sand dunes in the way so it’s a great place if you like storms :p

Lashed rain here for about an hour, maybe 90mins earlier, misty now and fairly breezy

Barely any rain here this evening!

Few echoes up north and reports on here show localised falls to near 20mm.

All in all, the more northerly passage models were correct. HIRLAM was particularly awful.

Between yesterday and today we got 1mm here in Kilkenny.

No rain here, not a drop, looks like its going to be another very warm day again.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

Ehhh woke up here in dublin and the ground is bone dry. Wasn’t there meant to be a tropical rain storm across the country last night? Expected to wake up to a well watered garden! Every decent sustained rain event for the past 3-4 months seems to have somehow missed dublin

Just 0.4mm in Dublin 16 from Ernesto.

A drizzly, misty night and ground is bone dry now in bright Sunshine. The Northern half of the country seems to be the only place that saw any rain from this system.

    Poor forecasting by the Met.
I said it yesterday all the models were showing ppn in the North only and that's exactly what happened.
I don't think there was 1mm fell in Cork

I knew this was a crock of ****e. Maybe it's just being an old dog but you get a nose for the likelihood of this sort of thing. It never felt like an event.

Track and rainfall accumulations up until midnight of the 18th

    QDD6Tvu.png

    Gi81KrV.png

In the end the Hi Res models did quite well. AROME , WRF- NMM, ECM's last run had it too, before that it was bringing the track further S.

In general the models did well. I would have a lot more confidence in them in the short range anyway say from a few days out. It was interesting how it took the last couple of runs to get the exact track correct.

Also interesting how the NHC followed this to the end. Possibly using it as a training exercise to validate their forecasting as things have been quite so far this year.

Got just 0.4mm here in Tralee.

Some light patchy drizzle was all we got in my area of west Cork. It did get blustery yesterday evening and overnight though.
