Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

BOCTO (not Bosco) is a three part interview series from Brendan O'Connor, just one guest each week. Starts tonight.

    The guests are

    Majella O'Donnell (week 1)
    Michael Harding (week 2)
    Nile Rodgers (week 3)

    Is there any point?
    Does this need a thread?

There's only one way to find out ...

I know the first guest because she is on absolutely every chat show but who are the other two?

It's similar to The Meaning Of Life (the Gay Byrne interview show, not the Monty Python Film), without the lip service to Religion.

It sounds like that show John Bishop does, forget which channel.

Nile certainly had an interesting life. Can't stomach the interviewer, though.

So after about 200 interviews with Majella O Donnel, a Room to Improve and multiple other shows, RTE then decide to do a new series of Daniel and Majella's B&B Road Trip tonight followed by an hour long interview with her, then the Nathan Carter show to round things off. What an absolute joke of a channel.

I think last week (or week before) we had a double dose of Nathan. For prime Friday night viewing!!!

This is only a 3 part series, isn't it?

And 3 crap guests have already been named.

Surely Majella has been asked every single question there is possible by now, she's done hundreds of interviews.

    Majella O'Donnell.

Before she married Daniel what was she doing?
    Why is she famous?
    C rate guest by now.

When I heard of this show first, I thought brilliant. Until I saw the guest list. I'm sure Brendan was disappointed too with the line up overall.

I'm watching Heat on Dave- seen it many times but hey, it's still good.

The lineup is a joke, its like a WaterfordWhispers pisstake of how up their own arse in their tiny little bubble the staff in RTE are.

It reminds me of godawful sites like Her.ie and Expose that still pop up in my newsfeed no matter how many times I downvote them, utterly generic Glenda Gilson article, followed by Pippa O Connor article, followed by some other Expose presenter or Vogue Williams article, but the celebrity pool in Ireland is so small and inbred that they have to go back to Glenda Gilson and repeat the cycle again.

    So, was it any good?

Will we get to listen to Majella talking about her depression again? Cue audience clap at end and Brendan saying what a strong woman she is. I’m licking my lips already.

I flicked in and out of it, no offence to Majella but I doubt if she was top of their guest wishlist when they were planning the series. There was a lively exchange where she accused Brendan of having taken digs at Daniel O'Donnell on his Saturday Night and Cutting Edge Show.

It was reasonable but for this format to work the guests need to be people who we haven't seen as regular interviewees on other RTE shows.

Just block those sites and you'll never see them again.

Incidentally, BBC4 has a repeat of all 3 parts of Nile Rodgers series "Nile Rodgers - How To Make It In The Music Business" next Friday from Midnight to 3am

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b097f5b2/episodes/guide

Probably contains all the anecdotes he will be telling Brendan the following week.

I get the impression Michael Harding much prefers it when he is controlling the interview.

When Brendan asks him a question he isn't comfortable with he diverts into one of his whimsical anecdotes as soon as possible.

Wildly inaccurate estimates of individuals wealth, and people suck it up and believe every word of it. Load of nonsense.

If you had a few quid it would take you a while to determine a reasonable estimate of your assets, even with access to all your documents and accounts.

I prefer the estates and wills listings. You get a nice accurate figure of what someone left behind, down to the last shilling!

Not watching tonight but I hope to Meet MH tomorrow evening. My daughter has 2 paintings in an exhibition and he's doing the opening.

And it's usually those that you figure wouldn't have much more than a ultra fancy pot to piss in by the shrewd way they go about their business and don't go getting themselves a Lambo, yet leave €30 million.

Interesting character Harding, different outlook on life and beliefs, whether that's from depression or has he always thought Like this I dunno. He comes across as a bit eccentric but very honest

The first time I heard MH being interviewed I thought he was lovely. As the year progressed, J had overkill of listening to him as he was Everywhere promoting his book and then his play.

That tends to happen in Ireland. Everything is overdone and the same people, no matter how interested or talented, tend to appear over and over again on a variety of subjects. In fact the less talent you have the more you are heard, witness Vogue/Roz et al.

I head Michael Harding interviewed at a book festival some years ago and he was excellent. Don't think RTE TV has had a specialist arts/books/ theatre programme for a while now so the outlets for TV interviews (other than the painful D'arcy and Tubridy) are limited this kind of random show.
