today's ensemble chart for Dublin, i'm posting it for fun to show the level of uncertainty after the 4th of February.

We see an almost equal run of very mild and cold members, showing that everything is up in the air with long range models not to be trusted.

Dublin dryer than normal up to 30th of January with not much in the way of precipitation, lots of spikes after the 30th showing a more unsettled theme.

No need to travel to the Galtee's
    16 cm on lug
Run off the GFS probably so will change

Heavy and squally showers in Tralee today. A rotten day by all accounts.

I think you might need your mittens for those temperatures.

Should be noted that the temps above are in Fahrenhait. Coldest at -68F is -55C

Temperatures will be dropping over the next hour or so. Should be quite noticeable.

    Dropping where?

I'd imagine there's hours between when the temperature drops in Donegal and when it drops in Wexford!

    Dropping everywhere.

Depends on the pace of the incursion of cold air. Could be an hour, could be hours, could be days in certain circumstances. Not tonight. The front is clearing the east coast now and the colder air-mass is already in over most of the country, the skies are clearing, so temperature will fall back toward freezing (away from immediate Atlantic coasts).

temp down to 4 degrees now, was 7 around an hour ago in Cork City. Looks to be dropping fast.

Very windy here in south Meath, went to the pub around 8.30 and everything was normal, came back only now and the roads are full of twigs and leaves and the wind is strong. it still feels relatively mild.

Cold air is still north of Glasgow to Edinburgh. should sink across Ireland before 6am.

    Currently 5C here at Dunshaughlin.

In relation to Thursday, and this will chop and change, but some of the higher res models are showing the potential as well. It's still too far out, too much uncertainty around how that low pressure is going to approach and it's exact track.

I was afraid to post charts like the one Kirmit linked above, but there is a chance of significant snow in parts of Ireland this week. The bad thing is there is no certainty and I think much of this week could be a nowcast situation. Even if alot of snow falls in some areas, the snow melt will be fairly rapid, this is not a frigid easterly we are dealing with. Atlantic snow melts very fast.

Don't worry, we'll be grand. Very little snow to bother anyone for most of the week.

Snow risk for next Thursday night.

Very much pinch of salt. these charts tend to completely overcook the snowrisk.

edit: for some reason the chart linking is not working.

bascially https://weather.us/ is showing significant snow depths across Ireland next Thursday night, up to 10cm in many places.

    Dropping very fast as well.

Was just out at the airport (live only a couple of km away) as RW34 is in use and the avgeek in me found that fascinating so had to watch for a bit.

4.5C leaving the house at 23:00. 3.0C coming back 45 mins later.

Still cloudy, skies clearing from the west will cause temperatures to drop further.
