Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Brioche is a funny animal altogether.
Is it a bread or a cake.
When one cuts it as a bead it can fall apart.

I picked up a loaf the other day and put it down just as quick.
    Am I missing out.

If it's a loaf it has to be bread.

The distinction is obsolete. All such is now termed, a 'bake'.

    Bread
As it's made with a yeast dough.

Stale Biscuits go soft - stale cake goes hard.

    You're missing out.
Brioche with a cold glass of milk, and a square of proper dark chocolate, that's the business.

So they are cakes as per court case

    it's a bread.

You get it in a loaf or roll or bun just like other breads. And you have to knead it and rest it.

That was the basis of a major court case. They were decreed to be cakes as they go hard while stale and a biscuit goes soft. Mcvities V HRMCE

A bad choice for a burger. Bonus points if it's served on something acting as a plate substitute e.g. a slate

oh yeah, and they're definitely a sweet bread.
If you ever had the French bakery brioches, you would see they have the crunchy crust on top, just like a loaf of bread, the ones you buy here all tend to be completely soft.

Tis the only bun for a burger otherwise just give me the patty.

Like Madeira so.... or any of those boring sponges your mother would make thinking she was Mary Berry while the one next door was whippin up baked alaskas and cheesecakes

Lol - it's called egg glaze. Plastic is the wrapper they're in.

I grew up in a ‘pig’s arse and cabbage’ household. To my folks, dinner isn’t dinner if spuds aren’t involved. And yet I was introduced to brioche as a kid. It’s not that exotic! :)

I feel like there's a clue in there somewhere - but it's just so damn hard to find:D

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this yet:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Let_them_eat_cake

The quote interprets Brioche as cake in English. I didn't know that the attribution to Marie Antoinette was spurious before looking at that article.

Totally agree. A burger isn't a burger if it doesn't have a brioche bun.

It's closer to being a bread than a cake!

I remember reading the posts about these brioche burger buns over in the Aldi thread. I really had my hopes up and then were brought down very fast once I tried them.

It makes great french toast, served with maple syrup.
