Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    No thread on The Rose.

Is it outdated, out of place.

A German Rose is on now, she has an Irish father, did a year in school in Ireland so has an Irish accent, unexpected.
I hadn't planned on watching it.

I think there is a place for the show, it's an Irish thing.

    It's very cringe.

Watched about an hour of it earlier and was full of crap akward jokes from Daithi. Was a bit of sexual innuendo thrown in too, just....wrong...

Why is it suddenly outdated and out of place?

I never took much notice of it but suddenly people have turned against it. What's after happening?

    Blame Anna Nolan.

Heard TRoT described as a competition for mothers to find a daughter-in-law for their sons.

I like the whole festival because it isn't a beauty pageant, isn't a talent show....its something else, and its purely Irish.

The Rose of Tralee is a festival for the middle classes and the privileged in Irish society.

Isn't part of the point of it that most of the girls aren't even in Irish society?

Personally, I'd rather watch The Angelus but it has its fans and as far as I know still pulls in the ratings.

    It's not suddenly.

It's been outdated and out of place for decades.

It's the quality TV your license fee pays for.
You should feel privileged to have the opportunity to be able to watch it.

The Roses are role models for young women around the world.

    Unbelievably popular it is not.

Unscientific survey of my work this morning and only 1 person out of approx 24 in my office watched it.

It's not as popular as Irish media make out. Only with a certain group, generally from the country and older.

The media do the same with stuff like this. Same as the Pope visit, RTE reporting a massive build up but the majority of people don't care and are not going but they try to make out that the whole country is involved.

This thread here isn't as good looking as the others. But has good personality. Might do well with a successful party piece or song.

Father Ted was mocking it for being outdated and out of place in 1996, almost a quarter of a century ago.

Always follow the money. RTE were asking for €7,400 for a 30 second advertising slot during the programmes. This is the highest for any advertising slot on RTE 1 in August.
