Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Most English Dictionaries have about 3000 synonyms for being drunk, I'd love to take the credit for squirreling out that fact but I must give the credit to that Doyen of Countdown Ms Suzy Dent!

For a start the premise about Eskimo words for snow is incorrect. There are several languages used by groups collectively known as Eskimo but the Proto-Eskimo language only has three words for snow - snow on the ground, fallen snow and falling snow.
So if by us you mean as English speakers then we are part if the Indo-European language group with over 440 individual languages and must have thousands of words for snow and being drunk.

Generally in English it seems almost any phrase can be used to imply drunkenness. "I was elephants", I was skuttered" "I was laced/stewed/juiced/crocked/sloshed" The list is near endless.

The problem with trying to pin down exactly how many Eskimo words there for snow and/or ice — or for anything, for that matter — is that Eskimo is what’s called a “polysynthetic” language, which means you sort of make up words as you go along, by connecting various particles to your basic root word. For example, we may add the suffix -tluk, bad, to kaniktshaq, snow, and come up with kaniktshartluk, bad snow.

Use to know these blokes who would add "ified" to your surname or name if you were locked so if I was, with my username, I'd be "Lorellified" :)

Other ones "well on" and "fcuked!"
