Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Cant seem to post links or images anymore, so sorry for no visuals....

The Vatican flag is one of the few non rectangular flags. (Nepal already mentioned).

The term 'jack' has nautical connections, such as jack the lad, jolly jack tar, and...Union Jack. The flag is only a union jack when flown on a ship. Otherwise its the Union flag.

The Irish flag is green white & orange. Not gold. The orange represents the north, where orange men come from, who got the name from King Billy of Orange. So, not gold, or the meaning is lost.

India left the Brit Empire shortly after Ireland, and adopted the Irish flag (rotated 90 degrees and added a wheel) as support. They thought it could become a thing, where each country to leave the empire would build on the last. It didnt take off...

Flying a flag upside down is an international sign of distress. The Irish flag is the same both ways up. But the Union Flag isnt, and takes a keen eye to spot the difference.

The Irish flag should not be flown at night, nor touch the ground. If the Irish flag is flown beside others (in Ireland) then it should be on the highest pole. If all poles are same height then the flag should be on the right ... not the middle one.

There is a place where the American flag is flown all day, never taken down, and never saluted ...... Its on the moon.

When you see US soldiers with the stars & stripes badge on their uniform shoulder, sometimes it appears backwards. This is because its on their right shoulder. When wearing a flag badge, the person is the 'flag pole' and you are seeing the flag from the other side, as it were.

Lifeguard flags - red means danger, so swimming not advised, but lifeguard is on duty. Red & yellow - swimming allowed. The yellow is sun/sand and the red is still danger, as water still needs to be respected so there is an element of danger.

My favourite flag? The pirate skull & crossbones. Arrrr! Take everything, give nothing back!!!

    Flag facts!

Apparently there are only two national flags that don't have at least one of blue, red or green in the: Bhutan and Qatar.

You want to look more closely at the Irish one...

Orange doesn't rhyme with anything in a 'come all ye' Brit-hatin' song.

The flags of each of our provinces look great, individually or in combination.

The Vatican flag is most definitely rectangular!

It's specifically square is probably the point they were making. That and Switzerland's. There's plenty good about being Swiss and , of course, the flag is a big plus.

The International Red Cross flag is an inverted Swiss flag, as a tribute to Henry Dunant, the Swiss founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
