Electric lunchboxes

Anyone else take their lunches to work in them? They heat up for 45mins to an hour so your food is nice and hot.

I swear I'm blowing minds since I've been back at work since no one has seen them before. Are they popular back home?

The metal container inside is removable and under that is an element that heats up. It's nicer than a microwave.

Looks like a portable slow cooker. I appreciate it'd heat food nicer but really couldn't be dealing with the faff assuming I had access to a microwave.

Finding a plug, timing it so you can call back to staff room to plug it in 45 minutes earlier, and the follow up cleaning... (dried on reheated food not as easy as rinsing a cold food container)

In my situation anyway it would be hassle alright.

As above, carrying it too and from work (it looks a reasonable size), plugging in somewhere (in an office do you leave it in the kitchen or under your desk? Does the smell of your heating food waft out for 45 minutes annoying your workmates? Cleaning it.

I don't really see the benefits outweighing a reusable plastic container for me personally. If someone else gets value out of it then fair enough.

Yeah fair enough, I could see it annoying other people. I would be just plugging it into the inverter in the back of the van and letting it heat while I'm going along.

If I walked into work with that thing in the pic, the workmates would laugh and point at me and prob give me a wedgie.

I'm good with the Jacobs USA Biscuit tin with the rubber band around it to keep the lid on.

Proper old school.

As well as tradespeople etc, some offices don't allow microwaves, ovens, or anything of the sort so this is a handy workaround.

You just know that you'll have it plugged in at 12.15 in the canteen and salivating over the lovely lunch you'll have at 13.00 and then find out Derek the Office Wanker will have unplugged it at 12.20 to charge his phone as it was at 85% even though there were seven other sockets he could have used.

Sounds like a good idea in general. In my office we aren't allowed any unauthorised/untested devices that need to be plugged in though, and I would assume it's the same in many big offices. You certainly wouldn't be allowed to use this at your desk, probably not in the cafeteria either.

Well, Stepbrother Derek was successful in his career so not really. Office Derek is mediocre.

Office Derek is the guy that uses the last printer cartridge and doesn't inform Supplies to reorder. Or uses all the milk on his cereal knowing that everyone is queueing up for their tea behind him. Office Derek never thinks about anyone but himself.

the picture suggests using it to bring stirfry/rice into work - this is a bad idea unless you have a fridge to keep it in as unchilled rice can make you very sick. If you have a fridge you probably have a microwave so I'm not sure how useful this is.

Yeah, a lot of businesses will not allow you to plug in anything that does not have a (company certified) PAT sticker on it, signed and dated to the electrician.
They must go ballistic with all the phone chargers around.

It's an odd one. I got a 22000mah powerbank (basically can recharge a phone, laptop, tablet, etc a good 7-8 times over so great for long flights, trips etc) the other week off eBay, which Amazon also stocked but would not ship to Ireland (they wouldn't even deliver to N.Ire via Parcel Motel which is often a great workaround).

When it arrived in Ireland on the postage tracker, it got held up for a day or so in customs checking but they sent it through fine in the end. So yeah most anything will ship to Ireland, just some retailers are at times frustratingly over-cautious about it. Possibly justified though; refunds for failed deliveries are usually a bastard to process.

Like my office, we don't have a microwave. We also only have one big toilet, and they make us all go at the same time.
