When the parents talk about our neighbours they always use their maiden names while we would only know their married names

Well the people who replied made sense of it.
    The meaning is intelligible.
It's the phrasing I find strange.

    Grammar/etc isn't my strong point!

Both my parents still use "McBirneys"as a reference point. And still call Heuston Kingsbridge.
Yes, my parents are the same. Amiens St station and Kingsbridge.

The Stena ferry used to be Sealink, but my folks still call it the mailboat.

When you look it up on Wikipedia it says also known as Lansdowne Road not formally known as Lansdowne Road.
Will you call it by the new name if Aviva decide to rebrand?

Wikipedia? Really? So if I go in and edit that now, taking out any reference to lansdowne Road, does that settle it?

Oh, go and do that not a problem.

There is no point migrating. Just act your age and stop trying to be 'modern' by going with new names.
For me, there's Sackville Street, The War Office, cleeks, mashies, and gentleman's persuaders, fuzzy wuzzy, perambulator, Burma, gurrier, groovy, by Jove, stand-off.
    And of course, Lansdowne Road.
And I am not going to change, at this state of proceedings.

    I still call Istanbul Constantinople.

I'm just changing this version, since my first one was used. I like They Might Be Giants.

Amazing that is still up on YouTube. The 'Turkish' backing music themes, from an era when appropriating 'exotic' foreign sounding musical clichés was considered acceptable is offensive in the extreme, and degrading to both Turks and those who think it OK still listen to such degrading stereotypes.

In the early 90s, a friend of mine used to love his father's phraseologies, including 'to turn Turk on somebody'.

My friend ended up going to Turkey after college to teach English, married a lovely Turkish lady, but still loves the term "to turn Turk." :)

Hang on, was this not always a Bord Gais sponsorship?
Don't think so - it was the Grand Canal Theatre first, then the BG Energy Theatre.

I'm never going to call ear phones 'ear buds' or even 'in ear headphones'. Headphones rest on your head hence the name. 'Ear buds' sounds like cotton buds that you use to clean the wax from your ears.
