Re-discovery, the (almost) forgotten music of your youth

Youtube is a great thing when searching for music...one title leads to the next. You start off with one title that you remember and before you know it, you're reminded of some that you had nearly forgotten / not listened to for years (or decades).

Show us some of your oddballs that you enjoyed back then and had almost forgotten until the re-discovery on youtube.

I loved that, never knew what it was about but was always intrigued by it as a young lad in the early 80’s. UTV just used it as a gap filler between programmes later at night, presumably when there were no ads to run.

For a number of reasons. Firstly, I couldn’t imagine this being filmed today given the current tensions on the Middle East. And,secondly, the lead singer Neil Arthur’s style is on point given it was filmed in 1982.

When I was 11, my brother spent the summer in America. He came back with a HI-fi system and a box of CD's. One of which was a Meatloaf album.

Whenever I hear some of those songs now it takes me right back to that time. I can see our bedroom, the hi-fi on the shelf and remember us listening to those songs vividily.

He's still one of my top 10 favorite artists. I know he's not for everyone, but I think he's brilliant.

Funny tale regarding this one. I remember regularly listening to an R&B compilation album (which my aunt owned) around summer-ish 2003 and this was the standout tune for me. Well, apart from the fact that it immediately followed the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song.

However, the two tracks smoothly transitioned from one into the other leading me to believe for years that the Fresh Prince theme had an added section with a chill tempo and female vocals which, after years of searching with the wrong info, I deemed to be rare to find. That was until eventually looking up the exact R&B compilation album on Discogs (which took a lot of searching and patience) and discovering that they were two separate songs the whole time. Didn't matter to me though, I finally rediscovered one of those mystery songs from childhood.

Still love it as much as I did then.

Another good single by an Irish band was Drive by The Honey Thieves. I can't find any kind of video for it though

Madness One Step Beyond is the earliest music video that I remember seeing on the TV, when I was five. I remember liking it for the zany antics and dancing, I probably took no notice of the actual music. I especially found the guy in the flat cap and glasses accidentally punching himself in the face mirth inducing (Chas Smash, I think)

Early 80's hardcore,not the hardcore that masquerades as hardcore these days,not a lot of people listened to it...the internet has been a treasure trove for me the last years...to those of us in the know it was music on a higher level.

He said "oddballs" (his bold, not mine) and "had almost forgotten", not well known iconic songs like Toto - Africa that you hear on the radio a lot.

I considered this one might be falling into my own criticism... however when I think about it, I'm not sure it does get played and it's certainly oddball.
