Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hardly universally appealing though is it? I like it but I'm pretty sure the vast majority of the other gender type wouldn't be too enthused about it.

Two Governers and an M134 minigun ? what's not to like.

Blain: Bunch of slack-jawed ******s around here. This stuff will make you a god damned sexual Tyrannosaurus, just like me.

    You are always going to find someone who doesn't like something but I'd say these are among the most beloved movies of all time;

    It's a Wonderful Life
    Back to the Future
    Aliens
The Empire Strikes Back (Star Wars in general but this is the best film)
    T2 Judgement Day
    Ghostbusters
    Jaws
Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory

    Babe.

An absolute gem of a movie.

It's one of those films that I would say those involved with the production were completely passionate about but hoped and prayed it would do somewhat well at the box office and find some kind of audience. A film about a talking 'sheep-pig' might have been deemed a tough sell, not quite a kids movie and a hard sell with an adult audience. A movie where to break even or make a modest profit would have been deemed a success kind of thing

That it became such a triumph through the sheer force of it's likability must have been incredibly satisfying.

Remove Willy wonka and replace with Braveheart or Gladiator and you have a superb list

I have the answer! Ferris Beuller's Day Off. Anyone who dislikes this needs their head examined.

I like the movie but Ferris is an asshole

    Children Of Men.

Some of the most gripping one shot sequences to ever grace a movie screen IMO.

Most people aren't really answering the question.

There's no point in listing YOUR favourite movie.

    Driving miss Daisy
    Life of Brian

I hate that film and mentioned it in yhe other thread

I also hate The Brekfast Club and for Back to the Future.... Meh, it's ok.

    You’re just a strange man.

(Paddington would be another I think)

Basically you're looking for a film which is not biased towards an obvious demographic which balances humour, emotion and action deftly and has enough artful dialogue and detail in the visuals to allow repeated viewing.

Airplane does this very well - film history parody (not just 'nam movies and Airport flicks but others if you spot them), dance-floor romance, knockabout slapstick, sweaty flashbacks, endlessly quotable dialogue and an emergency plane landing which demolishes the terminal building. What more do you want?!

Yeah but nobody gets their teeth acquainted with curbs in Gladiator.
    !

Shudder! One of the most gruesome scenes I've ever seen. Good movie, but hardly a feel good family classic.
