Absolutely agree, but in the second row particularly it's an issue because the players are more often than not underdeveloped physically. Murray got a very hard time of it this year for example, and it was just one on one either, look at the scrums when he was on.

Thank you Bazzo, i'm not alone to think it was insane to start him (100K barely), even during injury crisis, when Copelend had a lot of experience to cover there

O'Shea is 117K 2.06 m, lineouts, rucks and scrums will be ok. That's the main point. Murray may develop physically, needs 2 more years, nothing wrong to sign Darren, like Steevenson and Cannon, as useful back-up player

I think it's a waiting game now. Cannot see the IRFU sanctioning any signings from outside the system while they are also making statements in media briefings regarding cashflow issues within a few months while also dropping hints about seeking state support.

Didn’t see much of the Irish u20s this year, how did Oran McNulty get on? Would people consider him likely to step up to senior rugby with Connacht next season?

Good prospect a year or two of being ready for senior rugby

Not good this season to compensate shortage then.
Sullivan, as he's promoted, will have a prominient role!

I’d expect de buitlear to have a big role if he recovers from his injury

We'll need both as we have only 4 back-3 guys for now...
    (Healy/TOH/S.Fitz/Porch)

Possibility of calendar alignment meaning pro14 won't begin until early 2021 so for now there might not be a need for signings if there is just a handful of games in August?

The season finish will still be derby games in august followed by a final

you have ****ing no idea about that, and it's 100% unlikely it next season starts in Jauary.

You've been the 1st to claim many games has to be played.

You're going to start again your **** above travels when all borders are opening bit by bit right now? Just do, nobody will read

Finaly, I've made my decision about the ignore button. Your anti-Connacht mind with no sense of justice will bother another

Munster among others linked to Lucas. I know it's the rugbypaper but I'd be very unhappy if we didn't take a punt on him. We could do with a 10/15 unless there has already been a signing.

Don’t see why Munster would need a young 10/15 tbh with the players they have coming through

I’d be surprised if they had the money for any signing.

Hopefully Andy has some interest in him. Would be ideal.

I think it was mentioned before he coached him at some point. Would be ideal with his age and if he wont be doing much in Australia for the next while.

If Connacht can get him, great. I'd rather Munster roll with who they have.

    I was mentioning it, indeed

The provinces will struggle to pay the players they have, they're not going to be importing the likes of that guy.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

I could see Munster being interested in signining an outhalf given they're one injury away (and Carbery is a strong candidate for injury) from having Healy in their European 23 but, in reality, no province should be looking to import another 10 from outside Irish rugby. Leinster have 4 guys with senior experience who look capable of playing Pro14 rugby. Ulster have 4 outhalves in their senior squad also with Lowry also able to play outhalf. None of those 4 are likely to be in the Irish 23 either.

We already know that Irish rugby (and rugby in general) is in dire straits financially now and fighting to survive. Connacht clearly need another 10 but I'd much rather see guys like Angus Curtis or Ciarán Frawley be convinced to relocate than an unproven NIQ outhalf coming in.

Does anyone know if Lucas is Irish eligible? If so then I could see a deal somewhere happening but as Buer says it's more likely the IRFU will move a chess piece already under contract...

The other option would be to move one of the young Munster outhalves to Connacht. Crowley is very likely to be joining their academy this summer. I don't think it's really logical for an academy to carry three players in a specialist position particularly if another province is crying out for one. Flannery, Healy and Crowley are all decent prospects with Flannery actually getting the nod ahead of Healy in the JWC at times despite playing more rugby at full back.

It's still going to leave Connacht pretty light at outhalf though with jno experience behind Carty. The likes of Isaac Lucas wouldn't fix that either though.
